First ever pre-fit barrel build

Aero solus and Bighorn use same prefit.Just ran the cart at PVA, Areo Solus barreled action with a 7 Saum Brux,Timney Hit $1315.
Aero fluted prefits Barrels from Redhawk $450 today.

1. McMillan Game Warden Stock with a bunch of add-ons: $929 (it was in there ready to ship stock)

Keep in mind you can trim cost by going with a cheaper mcmillan stock. This one had arca rail and picatinny rail on it.

2. pre-fit 24" carbon fiber wrapped barrel in 7 PRC ($939)

There are much cheaper options that would still do very well. (Non-carbon)

3. Terminator self timing muzzlebrake ($265)

Also cheaper options out there but I love these brakes

4. Picatinny rail ($65)

5. Tikka Action ($800)

You can buy a whole tikka rifle to get the action off of for cheaper when on sale but I choose not to so I don't have to deal with the headache of getting the factory barrel off. (It's a bear to get off)

Or you can go with one of the many other actions on the market.

6. Hells Canyon Armory aftermarket Tikka extended magazine ($95)

7. Aftermarket trigger spring (1-3.5 lbs) for tikka ($10)


Total: $3103

If you go with a non carbon barrel, you can knock $200-$300 off depending on what options you go with.

If you go with a different McMillan or another stock you can knock anywhere from $300-$500 off.

The best part about this I think, is that I ordered all of these parts on November 25th. I put the gun together Tuesday in an hour and shot it yesterday. No 8-12 month wait.

Some day this is on my bucket list!

Really all one needs in the no-go gauge. If a sized piece of brass chambers, that's the go.

I just used the go gauge and put scotch tape over it.

But it's not a big deal how anyone wants to do it just as long as they are checking it.

I've had five pre-fits and still have three. All but one have been/are excellent shooters, one is just decent (still .750" MOA). I realize some have had a terrible time with a prefit, but pick a good smith, action and barrel brand - one should be happy with results.

Super impressive, props for showing and shooting 10rd groups.
I don't know why so many people don't want to know what their rifles can do.
I have a similar build but went with the SS proof

If I get around to doing this some time I want to load up about 3 rounds that have been resized in my die for that cartridge. Then use tape on the case head for a no go gauge. This way there should be no need for checking and sizing brass to the chamber. The chamber will be set up to how the die sizes it at full size anyway.

Went out this morning and shot some 170 Gr tipped hammers out of this rifle with Retumbo powder.

66 Gr produce this group. No signs of pressure but I may just stay here haha. Going 2950 fps. I might go higher just to find pressure but we shall see. Only a 3 shot group but still impressive.

If I had a reputable gunsmith near me, I wouldn't have worried about doing it. But shipping stuff has become a pain, and gotten more expensive.

This way, it's just me. Buy all the parts myself, get them on sale or at a good deal here on LRH. No shipping costs, no extra insurance. Put the gun together myself in 45 mins to an hour and go shoot.

McMillan has the inletting down to an art. You don't even have to bed the the stock for the action. As a matter of fact, they tell you on the website that no bedding is required.
