UPDATE!
We installed an Area 419 4" Arca rail on the Wby 307 Range XP stock yesterday.
Today, I went to the range after re-installing the barreled action into the factory stock and torquing the action screws to 55 inch pounds (Thanks, Weatherby tech line!)
After re-zeroing the scope (Down .2 mils, Left .1 mils) I fired one round at a 1 inch orange dot paster on my target and center punched it.
I reinstalled the new Leupold CDS dial I had received and decided to give it a whirl. (I didn't use the Arca Rail off my tripod. I shot off the bench with an Atlas PSR Bipod and rear sandbag.)
Using a Revic BR4 rangefinder I ranged a steel plate at 300 yards and dialed to 3 on the CDS dial. Nailed it.
Same result at 400 and 500 steel plates.
At 547 yards I dialed to the 550 mark and pinwheeled the steel plate that was my target.
This was too easy…. I ranged a steel pig at 600 yards dialed it and smoked that target, too. One round, range it, dial it and hit it.
If you send good data to Leupold, the CDS Dial you receive will amaze you with its accuracy. It did me, for sure.
One thing I did discover that I did not anticipate:
I purchased online from a forum member (I do not remember what forum or member, it doesn't matter) a set of used Alumina Leupold scope covers AND a factory Leupold power ring tab to ease the adjustment of the scope magnification. Everything arrived in good condition in a timely manner.
I installed all three items. Today I discovered that the power ring adjustment tab, when the power ring is maxed out at 15x on my Leupold VX5-HD 3-15x44 HTMR scope, interferes with the operation of cycling the bolt when trying to seat a subsequent round.
Easy fix, dial down the power to 12x, run the bolt and dial back up to 15x.
With outstanding accuracy I don't anticipate that I'll need a follow up round, dialing down doesn't bother me. Some folks will probably like to know in advance. Other rifles/higher rings, etc… may cause others to have a different experience.
I enthusiastically endorse the Leupold CDS system.
