My Alberta Whitetail

Thanks for the feedback! Yep, mine are 270 grain LRX's starting out much slower….a bit over 3000 mv. So, mine should do better….I hope! 🤞

You are live'n the dream. I've been trying for a Mt. Goat for almost 40 years….nutt'n yet! Congratulations on your successful hunts! memtb
Oh wow! What are you launching them out of? And yeah, 3000 fps should work just fine even if you end up with a close shot like I did. You'll have to worry more about the minimum velocity for opening up! I have to worry more about my energy at distance with such a light bullet.

Thanks! I sure am having a great season this year! First year living in BC and ended up with a black bear, bull moose, and a mountain goat in the province! I'm hoping to fill my mule deer tag and then have a late late season cow elk tag as well! The freezers are well stocked for my family and friends.

Where are you putting in for mountain goat?

Mountain Goat……here in Wyoming! It's pretty tough to draw, no preference point system on Goats……just luck of the draw, and I ain't lucky! 😁

That's from my .375 AI. I got them a bit faster, but the accuracy appeared to be falling off and I was getting into high pressure range….backed off and called it good.

The 3 shot groups were running right around 3/4" ……plenty good for my limited distance engagement!

With the velocity that you're pushing those bullets…..you're transforming a Barnes into a Hammer! 😜 memtb

Wyoming mountain goat would be an adventure! I got mine in the coastal range of northern BC which are quite a bit smaller in height and elevation above sea level than Wyoming. Alberta was pretty much the same as Wyoming where it was a straight lottery for the 2-4 goat tags per year as once in a lifetime tags; in BC I can now hunt them every year over the counter!

That's awesome! A 375 AI is a round I've never even heard of until looking it up! That would put quite the THUMP on anything you hit! And getting those LRX up to 3000 will be phenomenal on game!

I was actually thinking I may need to switch to loading Barnes 130 TSX or Hornady 140 gr ECX to hold together more for the speed my 6.5-300 Wby can get so it doesn't act like a Hammer! But at the same time it killed a mature bull moose in one shot and the only animal that needed a follow up was my goat to ensure it didn't take any more stumbles to the cliffs! So I'm torn on switching it up and wasting barrel life when it works phenomenally already.

I finally got around to doing a little shooting with it yesterday…..burned 14 rounds in 3 shot groups (except for the last 2 shots) while not allowing the rifle to cool between shots or groups, though there was a long 15 minutes or so between groups #1 & #2. I was testing my Leupold CDS to determine "if" it was tracking….. not for the accuracy of the tracking , as I only had 300 yards to work with, just to make certain it appeared to be tracking.

When I adjusted to 500 yrds. on the scope, my best group (naturally) was just above my paper…..printing on my rubber "stall mat". I used some "white out" on the holes so they could be seen. It's always under 3" @ 300, but I'm pretty happy with this group…hot barrel, shots 10-12.

The bullets used was my old batch of 250 TTSX's @ 3130 mv. They shoot great, by my low standards…..but I like heavier bullets, so finally got a bunch of 270 grain LRX's. The 270's shoot just as good….but are 110 fps slower. memtb
