6 dasher bottom metal question

Anyone here ever try running or using a BDL bottom metal for a 6 dasher? Starting a new build and most research I've found is DBM is the way to go which I'm fine with but I got a extra BDL SA floor plate set up floating around so I figured id ask around before deciding which stock to go with. Thanks in advance

Go with a M5 inlet. I didn't and regret it. Can't get my 6 Dasher to feed BDL. I really like the Dasher but think I might have to rechamber to a 6 Creed. Live and learn I guess.

I'd look at the Hawkins bottom metal with mag and a spacer kit. Assuming it's a hunting gun. If not then I'm not sure which BM and mag to go with. I'm sure others will chime in. Best of luck.

I used Hawkins M5 and MDT magazines. Can you locate a BDL mag that will feed the Dasher? They are short and tend to nose down in standard mags causing feeding issues.

This topic has been floating in and out of forums for the last 15 years or so. Maybe not the 6 Dasher but starting with the 6 BR and moving on to the other variations.

It's not just a simple throw the cartridges into a short BDL and fool around with the spring and follower. It takes some work and mechanical changes to the BDL magazine box, follower and spring to get those short, stubby cases to feed properly consistently. Most don't have the skills or the determination to complete this exercise.

It's far simpler to buy the correct bottom metal for the M5 inlet and then get the 6 BR magazines to fit it even if you have to get the BDL inlet machined to accept the M5 dimensions.

;)

Sable that's exactly what I was thinking of doing is getting my stock inlet M5. But with the cost of that plus new BM and mag, I'm sure it's cheaper to just rechamber to 6 creed. I'll have to do some pricing this winter. Guess it depends on how much I want to keep it a Dasher.

One of my contacts offers to inlet for the M5 for $75.00 which is the least expensive I've seen by far.

Bottom metal is all over the board with prices varying by where and by whom it's manufactured. Higher price does not necessarily mean higher quality, sometimes they're just more expensive.

The 6mmBR magazines though are just plain expensive, no two ways about it. But they do go on sale which I managed to catch accidentally so I bought several. I did do a conversion once, no more.

Now, with money being tight due to the time of year (yes, it's time once again for Christmas), I did find a solution given the need for less expensive projects.

Yes these are so-called plastic but mine have held up very well due to the construction. Maybe not for PRS run & gun, crawl through cement tubes but for everyday hunting on the desert.

Enjoy your search!

I'll have to check with a gunsmith I've used here in Canada for a price to inlet my manners stock to M5.

Go for the detachable magazine.

@BEEMAN if you are trying to pinch pennies you have to factor in the cost of new dies and brass also. Plus then you have to shoot a creed.

Exactly my issue if I decide to change. Not really pinching Pennie's. Maybe the inlet to M5 won't be as much as I think it will be. As far as the Creed, there's a reason I shoot two 6.5x47's😉
