338 378 weatherby barrel length

I prefer 32"-34" finished lengths in that size cartridge.
My shortest barrel running my 300-416 Rigby Improved is 30", changed the chamber design in 2022 and very happy with it.
My 338's are running 265's and 300's at above 3300fps and 3150fps respectively, yours may be lower.
I am going to 33XC and 37XC in the near future on these instead of my wildcat, brass will be better in the long run, even though they are not volume shooters by any means.

Cheers.

Already have a 338 378 factory rifle was looking at changing barrel to a hart 30 inch for velocity. I currently have 2 30 378 weatherby one factory one with 30 inch barrel. What kinda velocity should I expect shooting from a 270 grain to a 300 grain bullets. And any opinions on hart barrel
Thank you for starting this thread.

I ran that big Wby for some time... 31in barrel..
Was a single shot, on a Savage action. Lilja barrel.
Seating the bullets way out there, I pushed the 3000fps range with 300gr Berger OTMs.
I was somewhat underwhelmed when I built a 33XC for that reason. In fact, after 500 rds down the 30in K&P, I pulled it off and had a 34in Lilja installed. Getting around 3150 fps now, which is more to my liking. If I ever rebarrel that rifle, it will get a cut barrel instead.
Don't know how Hart rifles their barrels, but I've always heard good things about them.
Keep us up to date, would you?
Gregg

Was using surplus US869, can't get that anymore, switched to H50BMG and it runs neck and neck with it.
Have used RL33, can't get that either and it runs slower and dirty.

You have far more options than me, Vhit makes 50BMG powder too.

Cheers.
I've found 24N41 to very very close to H50 BMG, as well. Maybe just a tad quicker.

while I am new to this cartridge, but from my FB page for 338-378 shooters are getting 3k with 300 gr ers in factory form rifles.
I am currently playing with 267 HHT and 265 ABLR and 285 ELDM. I MAY out of curiosity give THOSE 300's a run if I have enough spin in my tube. Which I am not exactly sure.
All I know is that it's gonna be a fun ride
But if i ever shoot out this barrel it will be redone with a 28" Bartlein.

I'm running Lilja 30" on .338-.378 Weatherby. Ended up with 285grn Hammer Hunter bullets. N 570 @ 110 grns. This = 3,100 fps at sea level 50 degrees. Terminator T4 brake. This is right on a good node. Gun shoots very good. Scary accurate, easy on the gun & me too! Gun will shoot 300 grain Berger over 3,100 fps but not happy. Didn't want to beat the gun up either. Tried:
RL 33, US869, Retumbo, Ramshot LRT,, etc. I'm running a lot of freebore to drop starting psi and hit the node etc. 4.100" OAL.

Is this a standard weatherby chamber or custom one.
