Factory rounds sticking?

Eric Cortina used CLR regularly and showed a LARGE empty container that he finished up with on one of his videos. He said that even though he never had any problems with any barrels that he cleaned with CLR, he stopped using it because it voided the warrantee from the barrel manufacturer.

I submerged a SS brake in CLR. It was my intention to leave it in for an hour or so, but I totally forgot about it. The next day, I remembered about the brake and removed it from the CLR. All the built-up carbon just floated off the brake. The brake looked slightly different in the finish but it was fine. I've repeated this process without issue.

I think CLR is reasonably safe for use and would definitely use it to attack carbon that is resistant to removal by other methods.

I've used CLR in an ultrasonic cleaner to remove a bunch of carbon out of a Titanium suppressor. The finish was marred, but the can was CLEAN when I got done.

I'll be honest, I haven't even owned a bore brush in over a decade, and haven't ever felt the need for one. I've been through about a half dozen custom barrels in that time and never dealt with any "carbon ring" symptoms, let alone a sever case of CARBID19. Sounds like I'll need to pick one up and get to work.

Looks like I've exorcised the demons!

Soaked it for a while with some Butch's, then used a .25 cal nylon brush wrapped with a patch and some JB Paste on my 12" cleaning rod chucked in a cordless drill. Spun it for a 15 seconds, replaced patch and gave it another 15 or so.

Rounds chamber slick as a Clinton now. I sharpied one of the rounds to see if there was any residual carbon still making contact, and it came out clean.

Bore scope should be here tomorrow, so we'll see what we see… but for now it seems all is well in Creedville.
