Mark 5HD, NF NXS or NX8. You'll have more scope then you need and can do everything you want with room to learn. All can be had used or new if your leo/mil in your price range.

If weight isn't a big deal your in the 5x25x56 nightforce shv range . Scope is built like a tank and it has good for the money glass and repeatable turrets . I've got a few of them from 4x14 up to the 5x25x56

Only a Rich man can afford a Cheap scope.
That Burris Signature 3-15x44 should get you going pretty well for the price and distance you want…if you can swallow "made in China ".

I'm a long time Burris fan for hunting scopes.
I was talking about this subject with a gentlemen I know and he mentioned having a Burris available for sale. See link - 6-24 x 50 Fullfield w/fine plex reticle. Looking it over it appears to be what I am after, feature-wise. The turrets let you sight in the scope then the turret verniers can be calibrated to that sight-in position (IE - brought to 0). From that point you can adjust for elevation/windage as necessary.
I guess the question on "repeatability" is there just the same - when returning to "0" how accurate is it? The gentlemen I spoke with swears by them - he has a few and has put them on several others' rifles too for the same reason.

I've heard some good things about SWFA optics. I had a friend that used on his .338 Lapua……doing some 1 mile shooting on the family ranch. Though, that was several years ago….not certain of today's quality. memtb
I have this one for sale. It will be under your budget by a bit and save $300-$350 over one online after taxes/shipping.
Same internals as a mark5hd, a 4x erector is a tad more forgiving. 34mm tube makes for a very clear Eyebox compared to most 30mm. Very good glass and not busy reticle.
Also has built in level which works great. It's a tad heavy at 27oz but lighter than most sturdy scopes.
It's mil which some in your shoes may not like.

Don't overlook Trijicon. Their Tenmile and Credo scopes are pretty good. I have both and I am pretty impressed with them. I also have a NF NXS and SHV and they are well built scopes. All of these can be had at or under your budget, if you look around some.

I missed an elk of a life time several years back due to dialing turrets on a SFP scope thinking I remembered how far I had to figure to compensate and missed. Now this FFP reticle stays full size all the time and I can dial as much as I want.
Remember, if you have a SFP scope dialing turrets changed point of impact but not on a FFP. Just a thought

I think I know what your saying but it's not coming across right the way you are describing the differences between FFP vs SFP..
Actually, no disrespect but I'm not sure I'm tracking what you mean by dialing on SFP will change the poi but not on FFP. That doesn't make sense. Dialing the turrets should move poi regardless of SFP or FFP.
so your max would be what..........1,500...................1,000..........................500.........................black friday is coming and you could get a great deal on a higher end/price optic for maybe 1/2 price! since burris was mentioned i have a predator 4.5-14x42 on a 270win blr that's been great. have a trijicon accupoint (don't remember the power 2.5-10x56 maybe) that has very good glass for a low dollar optic. athlon and sig lpvo's in 1-10x28 are very good. the sig came w/mount for around the $500-600 range (athlon was about the same price (btr) ). both reticles are almost identical in the sig and athlon except for the illumination.

That said above. I have two and they're on the rifles I hunt deer and elk with. I don't mind the cheaper scopes on my varmint rifles, but I just don't think anyone under $2K stands with them in repeatability. I bought both of mine for around $1500 apiece, they're NXS models, 5-22 power. I'd buy a used one before I bought something else to hunt with, and I can't tell you how many Leupolds I own. I like them, but I don't trust them to go back to exactly the same place when I dial them up and down.
