Rebarrel vs buy a Tikka

I did the first clean and shoot suggestion. Bare metal, borescope inspected. Shot ~1.5-2.5" groups. It is a 300 Sherman.

It will go up for sale here this weekend. Buy it and prove me wrong. I can't believe it is crap either.
I'm not saying that I don't believe you.
And I have zero wants for a 300 anything.
Especially a magnum.

I already have a German made Weatherby Mark V Deluxe in "Weatherby 300 Magnum". I bought it at one heck of a deal and it went straight to the safe.
I have no desire to shoot it.

Not sure how wise it was, but I gave my wife a list of my guns with how much I paid for them and what to ask for when I'm gone.

She mentioned something about needing to get some rat poison...
I haven't seen any rats... 🤨

If you have a 300 Sherman in the M70, then you would have to go with 6.5 PRC
A 300 Sherman has a 0.473" bolt face….

Barrel Life, LOW Recoil and,.. ACCURACY
Yep. I pulled the trigger on the 6.5 Creedmoor order. It is the Tikka T3X Lite Veil Wideland. Cerakote, fluted barrel, fluted bolt, 24", camo stock, 7.1lbs….

I often wonder about the people who are so worried about recoil that they choose to use a rifle of a lesser caliber than they should to take big game. I am not all that recoil sensitive, but
I'd love to hear what the 6.5 Creedmoor cannot do on deer under 700 yards. I don't see it. I'm not practiced to 700, so I can develop some skills with this. If I need 1200 yard capability, my 300 WSM or 28 Sherman Magnum will do.

The point here is recoil can be managed. It does not have to be uncomfortable.
How can I manage a standard long action or magnum's recoil better? I'm not just talking about shoulder….im mostly talking about the scope jumping and loosing my view of the animal. Big guns sound great, until you shoot them. If I want to see my shot hit the animal and see the result, I need less recoil and lower magnification. Is there another way?

It means that the 270 outperforms a 6.5 Creedmoor, out to where the bullet goes sub sonic. This happens around 700 to 800 yards.
You think the 6.5 Creedmoor goes subsonic at 700-800 yards? What is the speed of sound?

1800 to put a new barrel on a Win? Keep shopping, barrel blank runs $400 and change.
Barrel, fluting, chamber and thread, action truing, muzzle brake alignment, Cerakote, shipping & insurance. I have 3 quotes. The money is not that big of a big deal. I'm more concerned about the value.

I could not get my trigger on the 6.5 Creedmoor to get down to my liking so I ordered a trigger spring from M-Carbo and should be in about the time I am getting my brand new knee!
Take a look at youtube video's,he got down to just over 1 pound. You can adjust up to your liking and I want about 2 pounds.

I wonder how the mountain tactical spring is? There are other items that I might want to buy from their website is why I asked.

Yup,. mine shoots, the 130 gr ELD-M's with, StaBall Powder, with, "Thrown Charges" from,.. the 3's to 1/2 MOA ( Yup,.. .4's,.. Average !! ).
Based,.. FACT'S !
I too have a stainless/fluted 6.5 Creed T3 that runs the 130 ELDM at 2880 with RE23 and shoots them well under an inch.

Curious to see what the same rifle in 6.5 PRC will shoot them at. I'm thinking a 130 ELDM at 3150-3200ish would NUKE coyotes.

I once handed my 15 year old step-son a M70 30-06 I took on trade and told him it was his new "elk rifle". He took a look at it, weighed it in his hands, shouldered it…. then handed it back to me and said: "can't I just hunt with the Tikka .260?". Smart kid!

Not sure. I have used the M-Carbo springs on other rifles and were happy but didn't try other springs. Really nothing to compare it to.
When you get your Tikka I should be healed enough from knee surgery to have installed mine and will contact you and give you my comments on it. There may be better springs out there.
If you get any of their products please let me know.

I have M70s, and Tikkas. Like both. The Tikka kind of is the "Easy Button", because every Tikka is shot for group at the factory.
If it won't shoot it doesn't ship, so you are unlikely to find one in the wild that doesn't shoot. Pretty good way to do business, if you ask me.
My wife has a Tikka Roughtech in .300WinMag that shoots about 1/2 MOA with Barnes 180 TSX. She is super pleased with it.
