Heavy Sporter Barrel in Sendero Barrel Channel

I have a project going where I will eventually have a carbon Sendero barrel in a Manners stock. Until then, I'm trying to get a steel barrel to use in the same stock for a while before rebarreling to the carbon Sendero.

Anybody have experience running a Heavy Sporter or up to a Heavy Bull Sporter contoured barrel in a larger, Sendero channeled stock?

I don't want the steel barrel to be absurdly thin sitting in the Sendero channel, but I also don't want to step up to a really heavy contour just to fit the channel perfectly.

No experience to that extreme, but often times when installing a factory barreled action in a chassis, a similar situation exists. It just looks strange. It sounds like you are planning to install a different barrel while you wait for the CF. Not certain what your short term goal is, but it should be fine. It'll just have excessive gap around the barrel.

Yes, I have, but why not pursue your ultimate goal—what you really want—even if you must wait longer for the CF and avoid the unnecessary cost of a steel barrel (~$400-600 and up)? Use the cost avoidance towards other parts of your project instead. But that's just me. Good luck!

Carbon barrel will be a few years down the road, chambered differently all together. I'm gonna put a steel barrel on to use with my kids over the next several years and eventually re barrel to my ultimate goal.

If ordering, ask if you can give them the dimensions at certain lengths to make it match better.

Have you ordered the stock/have it on hand already? If not, order it for the barrel you currently have and when you re-barrel, you can have it opened up or do it yourself.

FWIW, my 26" fluted Bartlein Sendero in 30 cal barreled action is only 6oz heavier than my 27" 30 Cal Magnum contour Carbon 6 barreled action. You may find you won't need the CF (but they are sexy) after all.

I do not have the stock. It will be a Manners but they only list M24 or Sendero contours so I was going to go with the Sendero
You should be able to take measurements at certain lengths and they can inlet to that. For the price of a new stock you are ordering, don't compromise. Get it exactly how you want it.

I picked up a Manners that was advertised as a Proof Sendero and it was very large for the Magnum contour I had. More than what I prefer.
