Defiance Ti-X

I'm curious to see if they cause/allow pressure signs to appear earlier than SS.
I have a pierce titanium action, the bolt on it, just like on the defiance is made of 4340, not Titanium.

Anybody tried one of these actions? I am curious if the DLC coating solves the titanium galling issues on other titanium actions.
Between that and the fact that the bolt isn't titanium, so you don't have Ti on Ti, I've not seen any galling. It's not as smooth as a tikka, but there's no issues running it.

Have you compared max velocity to a SS action on a similar build?
Does it achieve a normal MV,without pressure? Mine had a CM bolt.

I've seen one that cost me 150-200fps and have a buddy on this forum that has several the same way…. It's no fault of the manufacturers.
When it's a problem it IS the material, is my theory.

I have not. You're saying you saw pressure signs on the brass due to the titanium action with a Cromoly bolt? Before you saw pressure signs with a steel action?
The case isn't in contact with any titanium when it's chambered.

Without taking the same exact barrel off and shooting it from both actions or taking internal measurements of the titanium action, it would all be speculation wouldn't it?

Also Phil, how many rounds have been fired from the actions you are noticing this from? Just curious. I'm not an expert* as if I needed to state that.

I think the frame work around the bolt is giving in to pressure, allowing movement that shouldn't occur. What exactly is that movement? Not sure.
I run loads warm, though.

If it wasn't for my pal in Glendale having compared about 4 makes of Ti vs SS, I'd have more questions than I do. Like him, I'll never buy another, it costs me more money for less performance. Lesson learned.

I'm sure he would explain if we asked...his insight will be more descriptive than mine.

I went probably 500 on the Ti I had. 2 barrels gave the same result. So so precision and lethargic velocity.
Took barrel #2, mated it to a Defiance Deviant, and not only was it significantly faster, it shoots better.
This group was at 200 a few days ago.
6.5 Max
144 Berger LRHT
3299avg
A 200fps difference in maximum velocity, 3350 vs 3150 basically.

My 22" Remington 700 Ti in 270 Win seems slow at 2950 fps with a 130 gr Accubond. I don't know if that is due to the titanium receiver or not. The rifle is pretty darn light and I know that is, in part, due to the titanium. For some of my hunting, light weight trumps velocity. For that reason, I am interested in the Ti X (especially now that a 75 degree bolt throw is offered), and I look forward to reading some reviews of the actual action.

So you had 2 rifles in 6.5max and with the same chamber, powder, charge, bullet and the titanium one was 200fps slower?
