Chambering and ammo recommendations for first deer and hog hunt in central TX

I don't know why, maybe it's the phone angle, but every picture I take of a pig does it no justice. That's why I put my foot down there to give it some reference. I wouldn't believe it either if somebody showed me that picture. I've killed enough pigs and weighed enough pigs to get pretty darn close on weights......I'll give in a say 195lbsšŸ˜ƒ
 
Hogs aren't hard to kill at all when you dome them. That said, last year and this year I took several with a 6.5 shooting factory nosler 140 ballistic tips. I wouldn't over think them. Any reputable factory ammo should do the trick. See what the gun likes. I've killed piles of pigs with plain Jane cup and core bullets.

These angle pics do make them look smaller I agree.
 
I can recommend Norma Whitetail.
I used Ammo Inc. Accubond to drt a hog, but they are not available anymore. This year I will be trying Norma Tipstrike. All 6.5 Creedmoor
I would not hesitate to use Fusions either.

Ha, can't fool me.....that's a Guinea pig with a Ken doll foot next to itšŸ¤£šŸ˜‚ Holy hell, what are you feeding those things? She's a solid block from her front end to the rear. I think you could get away with a 2 minute of pig rifle on that one?šŸ˜„ A lot of the ones we get don't have big waist lines, look more like linebackers. My son shot this one a year ago, he weighed 210lbs, but was long as a wagon track. My son is 6'4", the pigs nose is touching the ground. And yes, great minds do think a like!

She was a stout sow! Yup! They come short & stout or like your Son's in the picture! Typically boars are modeled like that linebacker form!
