Last week, I took my Airman (a first-time hunter) out, and he bagged his first deer. I have been doing this since 2009, when my kids were all grown and out of my house.
That's awesome! Got to keep em involved and share it with them. Just made a post with my son's biggest to date…I love seeing kids get to enjoy the outdoors.

A few weeks ago I met a young man at the range dialing a new Browning X-Bolt in 270 Win. Couldn't help but inquire about it and his plans. 20 minutes later I'm offering to develop loads for him so he can feel more confident in his Colorado elk hunt - taking place right now, they started today. The 5 factory loads he was shooting were grouping no better then 1.75" He's now using a 129gr Barnes LRX load that I put together for him that he shoots bug holes with. He said he was going to keep his shots to 400 yards or under. Good lad!

It's out of character for me to offer this type of assistance to a complete stranger, but this guy just checked all the boxes and his demeanor resonated with me. I liked him instantly.

I hope he remembers me when he's my age and passes on the kindness. Us old guys appreciate being remembered for the good things we occassionally do. :)

Turns out I work with his wife. Small world. Little things matter.

Two years ago, I got a text from one of the Airmen I took out for his first hunt about 10 years earlier, thanking me. He took his son out on his first hunt.

There's something special about taking kids hunting, and also first time hunters.

My godson took his first deer 4 years ago with one of my rifles, nice 8 pt coues. Introduced another godson to dove hunting this year, he has gone out with us before as a spectator, but never shot anything else beside rabbits.

My son hunted dove for the first time this year, and got to go to his first deer hunt last week with my wife and myself. He witnessed us killing the deer, and helped gutting, quartering, and then butchering them, and he loved the whole process.

Hope God gives me many more hunts with my son and wife, and allows me to introduce more people to shooting and hunting.
