I've been archery hunting and hunting with the kids the last few years so haven't posted/shot much. This year I got a Colorado antelope tag and turned it into success.

Private land hunt where several hunters had persued this buck but he lived on a big flat cactus pasture and getting inside 300 proved to be a significant challenge. I was offered the opportunity to hunt the area. His waterhole was about 500 yards from a big ridge. I set up and waited. On day 2, he rounded up the does about 1200 yards away and started pushing them to water mid morning. It took them over an hour to move 700 yard and it was actually more nerve racking than having to set up quickly as there was a lot of time to think about what could go wrong. Finally he made it to the waterhole….and took his last drink.

— 528 yards
— 28 Nolser
— Berger 180 VLD Hunting at 3060 FPS
— Mid shoulder impact, no exit, jacket lodged in offside shoulder.
— Hydrostatic shock, never took a step.

That kind of antelope hunt is, to me, a dream hunt... I'd simply love to get an opportunity to watch a bunch of antelope at long distance and eventually take one beyond 400 yards. Hopefully next year I'll find a reasonably priced hunt on private land and since I'm not after a trophy, even a doe would satisfy me and maybe make it a much cheaper hunt.

Did your hunt require a draw with points?

Congratulations on a nice "goat"! Waiting that long for him to get in position is the test of a hunter!

Though a comment/question……no exit on a "speed goat"!/? I'm very surprised at that…..goats aren't very thick! Were you also surprised with the bullet's terminal performance? Inquiring Minds! 😉 memtb
It's a frangible bullet. I've taken everything from antelope, deer, pigs, wildebeest, elk with this gun/bullet. Virtually none had an exit but terminal performance was been excellent. Knock on wood, I haven't lost an animal yet and the furthest I've had an animal run was an audad that went 30 yards, but I caught him a little further back in the lungs than I wanted. That said, it is situational on the shots you can take. For example, I'd never shoot an elk at 100 yards quartering to me with this bullet.

Ive got loads/dope in all my long range guns for Bergers and hammers. If I think there's a chance of a close range shot on larger game, I generally use the hammers. I love fragible bullets, and I love monos. The bullets that I don't like at the hybrid type that claim to be the best at both penetration and fragmentation. IMO, they aren't great at either.
