Dogs on property

In Utah dogs have zero rights.
Local deputy shot a neighbors dog that was attacking his chickens. Dropped it off at the owners house local liberal news made a big stink about it. After everything was done the Judge inforcecd the law and shut up all the dumb *** California transplants.
In Utah you have every right to protect your live stock. Buy some chickens and have them on your land . If you have the same laws as Utah.
Most western states do then shoot on sight after 1st warning. Which would be fair in my opinion.
Good luck 🤞

And yes I love my dogs. I'm just smart enough to know the rancher is going to shoot them if they chase his cattle.
Don't mess with people pocketbook!!

Many moons ago we had a neighbor from down south that decided they needed a pack of German shepherds. No fault of the breed but out in the country the pack mentality took all but two seconds to kick in and we started having problems. We lost a calf and my teenage self whacked one in our yard. It caused such a stink in the rural neighborhood that my parents decided we needed to find another way. We found that if we lightly froze paintballs they wouldn't break or deform and you could run much faster fps.

Didn't take very many times hitting them with frozen paintballs to get them to stop coming around.
I like the paintball idea. Some sort of unpleasant deterrent like that or a slingshot would be suitable. Ideally, if they have a collar/tags and will approach you, you get the info and contact the owner. You can also file a complaint with the local LE agency. Again, if they'll come to you (treats go a long way), you could have Animal Control pick them up and take them to doggy jail. That way the owner has the inconvenience of having to go get them, maybe paying a fine, and getting a lecture from LE. The last thing I would recommend is shooting them with anything lethal, unless they are repeatedly harassing/killing your livestock or wild animals. Killing someone's pet simply for coming onto your property seems a bit much and may not end well for you....

There's been a few over the years that didn't make it home after harassing livestock and deer. My neighbors all know the deal. I'm surrounded by goat and sheep raisers. We lost one dog to my neighbor several years ago, she was chasing a calf in his pasture. We tried to call her, etc. but....... Kids didn't like it, neither did we. Neighbor did what he had to do. We're still friends.
Had a buddy several years ago that put down a German shepherd on his place for chasing sheep. He dropped it in a limestone cavern. Several days later an ad shows up in the local paper. "Missing dog, reward given" with a picture of said animal. He actually called her and tried for the reward! I wouldn't have that kind of gumption. Just shoot, shovel and shut up.

Stray cats don't even get the benefit of a warning or phone call. Worst invasive species there is. I've ruined plenty of good hunting mornings killing them nasty things.

A guy I know has livestock and was advised to shoot them with a 17hmr by the local police. It's not a rural area so he's got houses really close. He borrowed my night vision setup. Took a few months but one was a Rottweiler. Then he had a coyote issue and trapped some . Didn't get the trap secured enough and has a dead animal in his irrigation pipe . Frozen paintball hurt like heck. Always thought about bear spray as almost had to shoot my neighbors dog once . Damm dog chased me into my garage before I turned and shoved the pistol in his face . The responding officer found the dog as it charged his car and was able to get it secured . He asked why I didn't shoot it . I answered with you'd have charged me with it and he said yep then there's animal control and they get you for more crap. If it ever gets back out bear spray it is. Should make for a quick retreat.

The last time I had to deal with a dog on the property, I called the neighbor, and they said they'd work on it, after a couple more times I picked up an animal trap, trapped the dog, and dropped it off at the County Animal Shelter with the owners address and phone number... it never happened again. Cheers.

I actually got my CCW permit because of the love of pitbulls in my area.
My mother was a mailman when she was going to college for her LPN. And actually made friends with a aggressive dog by spraying some pepper spray on the ground in front of it.
That's was her story not mine.
I know an old gentleman that had his fingers bitten off by a pitbull from the local dog park.
Me myself I have been between 2 pitbulls circling me in front of my house getting the garbage cans. They left me alone after going after the neighbors down the block.
The only thing that Stopped them was a 12 gage to the face after attacking me and 2 others on my street.
After that I'm not giving treats only 45 or 9 mm jhp's

20 or so years ago, my young daughter walked out of my house one morning in her elementary school uniform and a big male Boxer/Rhodesian cross ran at her under my carport bouncing up and down, barking and growling.
She was running back in the house as I happened to be driving up the driveway.
When he turned towards me he was introduced to 36 grain copper plated HP from a Ruger 10/22 truck gun.

I'm kinda in the middle. I had a cat killed in the country when I was a kid. And I've been attacked by dogs too. I love both cats and dogs, all pets really. So I'd rather not see them killed. But sometimes you have to.
