I built and hunted a 300PRC for this fall. It is a great rifle and now has made my 300WM extinct (it's listed in guns for sale). Rather than sell it I am thinking of repurposing it. The 300WM is built with a Tikka T3x magnum action. I have been looking at two chambering that interest me. First, the preferred choice, is a 35 Whelen. Second choice is a 35-300.

The 35-300 would be easier, and much less expensive. Spin the barrel off send it to JES for a rebore. I think loading for it would be a bit more challenging as it is a wildcat.

The 35 Whelen, a good 'ol classic, on the other hand would be easier to load for, readily available brass, dies etc. The big question though is the Tikka is a "magnum" action. The question I have is whether it is a "magnum" action or just a Tikka long action with a magnum bolt head bolt rather than a standard bolt head bolt. Is the conversion as simple as buying a Tikka long action bolt with a standard bolt head?

Thanks for the help.
