.277 build using the 170gr. Elite Hunter

27 Sherman mag here also. @Bghunter338 had to copy me 😆
Just got back from filling an extra doe tag with mine. First on game experience with a cutting edge Lazer. I'm shooting the 150 ceb lazer at 3330 from a 26" barrel with an 8 twist. Ran the 128 McGuire copper rose at 3640 in it and a 165 matrix at 3300. I have bounced around on powders and know i could get more out of the ceb lazer but it's shooting great where it's at.
Shot the doe this morning at 540 yards and dropped like lightning struck it. Never had that without a high shoulder/spine and this was all lungs and ribs. Super impressed.

I've also shot a bear with this cartridge and the 165 matrix at 740 yards. Single shot there also.

Wonder why no one in this thread has mentioned the 6.8 Western? It should do everything that most of the wildcats based on the .270/'06 case, or the 270 WSM, can do. I'm sure it will easily drive a 170 gr bullet over 3000 ft/sec with a 26" barrel (some posters were mentioning a 28" barrel). And, you can run it in a short action.

Why no love for the 6.8?

Why no love for the 6.8?
I think the people who have them, love them. I have a M70 .270 WSM that after talking with my GS about it, will just be a fast twist .270 WSM. He said there aren't any issues running the longer bullets in the M70 SA magazine. He's a diehard .270 Win guy, and he loves the 6.8 Western.

I have 6.8W and 1/8 twist 270 wsm. Both in 3" mag. I have not tried the berger in the 6.8W as used 165 ablr/175 tgk there but have used 165 matrix and 170 berger in 270 wsm and works great in a short action

Agree that 6.8W is a marvelous cartridge. Super accurate and not fussy at all. Factory loads are super accurate and ahem actually reach published velocity. Very efficient cartridge. Published data shows close to 3000 fps with a 170 in 24" barrel so 26 should get 3+. Not a lot of recoil for the down range ballstics that will deliver

I mentioned it, my 6.8 throws 170s into tiny groups with Retumbo and N570. Love the cartridge and bullet.

I will admit to using a 141 HHT on my elk this year because the shot was around 100 yards, I reserve the bergers for shots past 350 yards

Pretty simple. Brass. Lapua, Peterson, ADG, Alpha or the like is available for all the other ones mentioned. The 6.8 is a good cartridge, but your limited to mostly out of stock winchester brass or being forced to buy overpriced factory ammo to get winchester brass.
