Looking for 416 VLD Bullet for 1:11 Twist

Stability is affected by several factors, the most important factors being barrel twist rate and the length of the projectile. To a lesser degree it is also affected by the bullet shape, velocity and environmental conditions.

Wildcat pushes bullets a bit over 400 grains to a bit over 3000 fps. To be used for North American big game in the elk to moose size categories.

Correct. 500g is too heavy.
Looking to go at least 1000 yds.
Will have to dig out the data velocity.
What cartridge (.416 R, 416 RM, 416 Righy, etc.)?

Are you looking for mono or c&c?
As you can see, people are genuinely trying to help you, but you're not making it easier. OK, you have a wildcat that propels a 400g to 3000 FPS.

- A 400g at 3000 FPS is no slouch. I am unsure what your velocity goal is for 500g, but it would be nice to know what you got. Is the 400g a mono or C&C? As others noted and recommended, most bullets are monos. SwampLord is a big-time wildcatter (has his line of wildcats) and used to be a member here and has experimented with Hornady 500g A-Tip. He also killed a few moose with it.

Good luck!

For my 416 Rigby Improved, 10" twist, 34" barrel, for ELR target shooting the only bullet validated for 2000 metres is the 550g Flat Line solid copper G7 BC .637.
It is the only bullet I would consider, however, I have still not found a suitable HUNTING weight bullet in a VLD style, nor a HYBRID.
Cutting Edge has the 550g tipped hollow point which is also solid copper and requires a twist of 10" minimum, faster is better. G7 BC .525.
Bullets lighter than these are few and far between.
I would look up Cutting Edge, their bullets are for hunting and may fill your needs. I use them in my 375-416 Rigby Improved, when I can get them…

Cheers.

Appreciate the fact people are trying to be helpful. This is a cheytac action sized wildcat. Looking for mono. 500 grns (Hornady) is too heavy as I would like a flatter trajectory for shorter range capabilities in addition to the 1000+ yd. And, of course, Hornady is lead.
I like the idea of cutting edge bullets. That could very well be the way to go. Just was hoping somebody here made something similar.

Yes I know you want something lighter but that may prove to be difficult. You'll have to do lots more searching on your own or visit Snipershide in the ELR forum.

GS Custom used to make a line of CNC bullets like that, with velocity improving drive-band technology. Unfortunately those are not legal for hunting in most places, and they are still a tad heavy for me.
CheyTac bought out GS Custom but wound up going with their new, patented, 'despinning' bullet that stays stable from 4000 fps to subsonic. Purportedly their 40 is rated for 4K yards and tested to 3K+ yards.
