28 Nosler Info

So just wanted to post some results I am getting with my 28 Nosler maybe it might help someone out. The gun is a savage 110 ultralite with the proof barrel. I have had the gun for a few years but was never really satisfied with the accuracy. I upgraded the stock to a Stockys VG2, American Precision Arms muzzle brake, and an Athlon ARES ETR 4.5x30x56. The stock drastically improved my accuracy and comfort getting in to the gun, especially when shooting prone. A buddy of mine that reloads has been helping me work up a few loads. I am getting awesome results with RETUMBO. Attatched is a 3 shot group at 200 yrds (.33 MOA) along with the load data. This is by far the best group I have shot out of this rifle.

Nosler 175gr ABLR
80gr RETUMBO
ADG brass
COAL 3.45
CCI 250
Average chrono 3091fps

Thanks for the info. I am putting scope etc. on the same rifle, so haven't shot it yet. Curious if you already has a brake on it before when you were having issues? I am expecting a pretty good thumping without one. I have installed a 5 port "Muscle" titanium brake from Peircision.

I have mainly shot it with the muzzle brake. I know the brake could affect shot placement, but from what I experienced I believe it was more so the flimsy factory stock. That muzzle brake will definitely take that heavy recoil out and make it way more fun to shoot haha.

Nice! That's some good shooting. I haven't tried the Bergers yet. Might have to give them a try. I see you have that COAL extended as well.

It's actually like .200 off the lands with the VLD-H 180s. I traded into this rifle and that was the load the dude had for it. It shot amazingly well- just about anything I put into it. Then I started having a few issues, rail was coming loose- thought I fixed it, but didn't. I'm not real nice to her and thought the barrel may be going south- had unknown munitions look it over and they found loose mounts everywhere! Lol- tightened her up and replaced screws etc. I was running out of load dev time and threw the old load (nosler brass) into my once fired ADG and got it dialed back in close to zero, then cooled everything off while I was working on a new rig, then shot for group. This load holds out to 1000 for pretty darn good. Next trip out, I cold-bored at that 1000, just high right (10"plate) then hit with the second, took it back to 100, rezeroed the windage and center punched the 1000yd plate. Then made sure the zero returned at 100 and quit. I think she's ready

I would have built one of these if I could get brass easily, however, only 26 Nosler brass is listed here and importing it now is prohibitive.
Can't say I don't like my 7STW in any way, but the Nosler case is nicer than the 7RUM I played with back in the early 2000's.

Congrats on your build, looks like fantastic load results, very similar to my STW in velocity.

Thank you Sir. Yeah reloading supplies for the 28 were pretty hard to come by especially during and after Covid. Supplies are finally starting to come back here in the states, but still having a little trouble finding CCI 250 primers. Graf and Sons have a few in stock options for 28 nosler brass.

Nice stick. It's pretty and a shooter. 28 is a great cartridge. I run 177 hammers out of mine. Well done!
