About 3 years ago I purchased a really interesting custom rifle off of another member on this forum with the intention of shooting and reloading for it.

It has since sat in my vault behind a number of other projects that I have the best intentions of finding time to do.

Since the original write-up was so good, I am going to borrow heavily from it.

"This is a custom .338-06 Ackley rifle built by Rich Reiley at High Tech Customs. The foundation is a 1980-vintage Winchester Model 70 receiver. Of course, the action was blueprinted. It wears a #5 Lilja straight-fluted barrel that is 25" total length including the brake. The brake is Rich's signature slim-line brake, which is threaded. The bolt is spiral fluted. I'm unsure on the brand of trigger, but it has zero creep and pulls at 3 lbs 2 oz. average of 5 pulls. I'm not 100% sure on the stock brand, but Rich made his own stocks in the early days before selling his molds and technology to Bansner. The stock is painted black with tan speckles and has a nice sculptured cheekpiece. The receiver is nicely bedded into the stock. The stock also wears a Caldwell pic rail bipod adapter. The LOP is 13-3/4" and the stock wears a Decellerator pad in excellent condition. All the metal is in black Cerakote. The complete rifle weighs 7 lbs. 5.3 ounces. The only blemishes anywhere on this rifle are some wear on the fluted bolt shaft, normal scope mount tracks on top of the receiver that your mounts will cover, and two very small scrubs on the bottom of the bolt handle. That's it. The barrel, stock and bottom metal have zero blemishes.

I have not fired this rifle since I bought it, so I can't attest to the round count or accuracy. Because of the unique caliber, it's probably safe to say the round count is low. Rich's rifles are guaranteed to shoot sub-MOA with premium ammo and I'm sure this one will meet that requirement. The only reason I'm selling it is I bought a Honda Pioneer last week and some toys have to go.

I'm selling this rifle as a package. This is what you get:

  • The custom .338-06 AI rifle
  • A set of $175 Redding dies, the 3-die set number 84437.
  • A full box of Weatherby factory .338-06 ammo in 210gr Partitions
  • 50 Norma fireformed .338-06 AI brass with a handful primed.
  • 13 standard Hornady .338-06 brass ready for loading and fireforming
  • 26 Hornady .338 185gr GMX bullets"
I have also added the following components to the package that come in addition:
  • Game Reaper Win M70 LA 1" Mount - Model 10600
  • Quality Cartridge .338-06 Ack Imp Unprimed Cases - 2 packages of 20 each

Here is the thread:

High Tech Customs .338-06 AI Rifle Built on 1980 Win M70 Action. Full Package w/ Ammo.

Here is Rich Reiley's website for High Tech Customs:

https://htcustoms.com/

I am looking to send it down the road to another member who has more time to shoot and reload for it than I do. It is a really nicely done custom rifle and the builder is still in business in case a problem were to arise.

I am asking $1,900 shipped to an FFL.

Please reach out with questions.

Thanks!

The stocks Rich use to use came from high tech composites, not his own.

I have 4 of Richie's rifles, they all well outshoot me. I have one of the older high tech composite stocks as well on a 340wby Rich built (that i also bought from Keith) and its a fantastic rifle.

Buy with confidence, Rich builds fantastic rifles!

I have had a few questions come my way regarding load data for the 338-06 AI. I know that many on this forum are experienced reloaders.

For those who are not, most reloading manuals list data for the 338-06 A-Square, which is a good starting point for the Ackley version with it's increased case capacity and 40 degree shoulder.

This package comes with plenty of fireformed brass that is ready to be reloaded as well as additional 338-06 AI virgin head stamped brass that is ready to run through the included dies.

I will also toss in this manual, which I found while I was looking through my pile of reloading books:

Thank you to those who have been messaging me. I am confident that we will find the right fit for this ready to go elk/bear/deer package.

Alright guys,

I would look at doing trades here too, with money going either way, depending on values.

Guns I'd be interested in:

Barrett Fieldcrafts
Seekins Elements

Other .264 - .30 bore hunting rifles. Either nice factory guns or customs.

Please reach out with any questions or to discuss.

Thanks!

It's a nice looking and nice handling custom rig. The balance feels perfect.

Someone will be very happy with it.

It comes with a box of Weatherby 338-06 A-Square ammo [210 grain Partitions] and I am delivering everything needed to reload short of powder and primers. Both fireformed and virgin brass included with the Redding die set.

This package is ready to go hunt.

PM me guys. Let's talk.
