Barrel Vise Mounting options

Hi, I was curious what other members have done to Mount their Barrel Vise? I currently have a 90in long workbench that is 28in deep. My dilemma is that I dont want to take up precious space on top of the work bench and since I will not be changing barrels often so I would prefer to not have the vise mounted on top of the bench permanently.

Has anyone done an unconventional mount such as mounting it to the side of the bench so the barrel is vertical?

Just used a standard bench vise to hold the Barrel Vise?

Or clamped the Barrel Vise to the work surface and then remove it after the job was done?

Whats everyone's thoughts?

I have one mounted vertically. On the side. I seldom use it so it works just fine for me

I have a chunk of a 4" x12" beam about 3' long that I mount my Viper vice when I need to use it ~ maybe once a year so it's not worth mounting it on my bench.

I clamp mine to the bench top with a C clamp when I need to use it.

A gunsmith I visited in the past had a barrel vice bolted onto one of the bench legs.

I have my viper bolted on end of bench now but first had it on a sawhorse. Kind of hokey but it worked. I like the clamp idea. Would be solid and quick and easy.

I appreciate all the replies. I will probably play around with clamping it or doing a vertical/side mount. If anyone thinks of new trick way to do it I am all ears.

I unfortunately mine and stash it on a shelf under the bench. Reattach when I need it.

Mount it to a spare receiver hitch and use your pickup as the "bench". It's also handy if you ever have to use heat or a really long cheater bar to get a barrel off.

I mount mine on a 2x4 and them will c clamp to my bench as needed.

I also used to clamp mine onto the end of my reloading bench, but now I have it mounted to pedestal. I also have another that is mounted to a tow hitch for use at the range or wherever.

I use a couple of massive C clamps to mount it to my bench. I just dropped a Redding Big boss there, so I'll have to pull a press the next time I build something. I'm not using it often, so it'll do.
