This is the part of elk hunting I like the most. Third season doesn't start till November, a great time is now to be out looking and figuring out what to do then. IMG_4090.jpeg Camp last night and the La Sal's of Utah in the background.IMG_4083.jpegIMG_4086.jpeg

Last weekend my scouting began with a 2 day walkabout, my sxs was parked next to a pond, upon return I noticed mud splattered on the inside of the machine and on the hood, first thought, what the heck. On further examination I saw the tell tale prints of a small bear that decided to make my machine their playground for the day. Only damage was the side net he tried to exit from but decided to go over the front half shield instead.IMG_4042.jpegIMG_4039.jpegIMG_4040.jpegIMG_4041.jpegIMG_4038.jpeg

Very nice can hardly wait to get hunting.
1 more week and muzzleloader deer starts and then general elk hunt in Utah.
Love the La Sals mountains.
Last time I was in the La Sal near Moab we just got done setting up camp and went to go scouting when we got back had a small bear going through the cooler.
Stole most of my homemade beef jerky. Little bugger

338 Dude: You're right --- I should get out there again. Probably won't hunt -- just the thought of trying to drag out a downed animal leaves me cold. But I could get up into the mountains again, and that's 90% of the reason for going.
You must restart somewhere, restart by first getting out there if you get the bug to hunt bring help or have someone you can call if you are successful.
Another option is a deer cart. It makes dragging a lot easier.

Sometimes I feel too old as well, not as bad as many of you but at this point, time is on my side. No major responsibilities, the wife is good with me being gone for long periods of time as well. If it takes a day to get out of a hole, then so be it. I have some of the younger guys lined up to help if I need it plus at the bottom of the road an outfitter has a number posted to do just that.
