7prc Starter Load

Doing load development now for 7prc. Rifle is Savage Ultralite with 22" carbon fiber Proof barrel. Using both Hornady 175 ELDX and Berger 175 elite hunter. Powders are Retumbo, RE22, RE25, RE26, H4831SC, H1000, N568. 100 yds for load testing. Velocities ranged from 2800+ to 3078 - and tracked using the new Garmin Xero c1 chronograph.

Didn't have good luck with group sizes for Retumbo or RE22. Best group size with Hornady 175 ELDX was with RE26, 68.0 gr, 2992 fps. Covered group with a dime.
I think my rifle liked the Berger 175 elite hunter bullet better than the ELDX. Very good results using Berger bullet with powders RE25 - 2892fps, H4831SC - 2867fps, N568 - 2883fps. Highest velocity with this bullet with H1000 - 3063fps.

Was using load data from Berger on their bullet for 7prc. 70.6gr of H1000, Hornady brass, Fed GM215M primers. Highest velocity for the 3 loads I put together for this powder was 3078.
I'm still working with my 7PRC. I'm running about 2,900fps in a 26" bbl. Looks like there is still some room on the table. Thanks for the feedback.

Hello everyone!
While waiting for the gunsmith to change the barrel on my rifle and put a barrel that comes from Brux, 7mm PRC, barrel 28", I am making preparations and gathering materials to make my own ammunition.
That's why good advice would be precious to me, and in order to get good advice, I'll list everything I have at the moment in the hope that one of you will notice what I'm missing or what it would be wise to have in order to make ammunition successfully.
So, I have dies for 7mm PRC.
Primers: RWS LR Magnum Nr 5333
CCI No 250 and No 200
Sellier & Bellot LR Magnum
Gunpowder: H 1000
Reload Swiss RS 70 and RS 76
Vihtavuori N 560
Bofors RP5/NP (identical to Aliant Reloder 22)
Bullet: Berger 180 gr. VLD Hunting

If you were in my position, which primers and gunpowder would you choose to start with? Also, what weight of gunpowder would you start with and at what weight would you stop to avoid entering a dangerous area.
My goal is to achieve a bullet speed of 2950 fts to a maximum of 3000 fts and at the same time be sure that nothing bad will happen to me, neither to me nor to the people around me.
Now, if anyone has a good idea and advice, I'm looking forward to it.

My settled load for my new 7PRC and a 175 Berger Elite Hunter is:

69.5gr H1000
CCI 250 Primer
.05" jump
Hornady brass
Labradar showed speeds at 2894, 2896, & 2897

That was after 117 rounds on the new barrel. I'm hopping it speeds up a hair, but if not I'm still super satisfied with the accuracy and those speeds will be lethal on just about anything I'll ever hunt. I reached 2960 with 70.3gr of H1000, but I started getting pressure signs and accuracy was not as great. Groups opened up from 1/4moa to around 3/4-1moa.

The rifle is a "custom" rig that I put together. Its components are:

Impact Precision NBK long action
Bartlein SS 3B profile barrel finished at 23" cut by Joe Walls at Walls Rifles
Manners LRH stock bedded in MarineTex Gray
Bix'n Andy TacSport Pro-X trigger
Hawkins Precision DBM and their hunter magazine
Seekins precision rings
Vortex Razor HD LHT MRAD 4.5-22x50 scope
Running an old Silencer Co. Harvester can.

(I also tried N570 and a R16 loadings and they were hotter. All in the 2900fps+ range, but accuracy was not quite what I wanted (1/2moa to 3/4moa) so I'll be sticking with the H1000 load for now anyway.)

CamBeul welcome from Illinois!!
You will find everything you need here!!

Good evening! I cannot remember right off what the overall length is and I am not near my data currently, but my jump to the lands was .05" from the ogive with the 175gr Berger Elite Hunters. I have run out of those 175s for practice in preparation for a Montana elk/deer hunt and they are no where in stock (that I can find), so I loaded up some 175gr ELD-Xs with 67gr of H1000 and a .03" jump to the lands from the ogive. My muzzle velocity was an average of 2890fps with that load in a 23" barrel, but it generated outstanding groups so I'm running with that load. (One of the groups with the ELD-Xs are attached.)

When I get to my loads I'll measure the overall length on the Bergers and the ELD-Xs.

The lengths on my loads are:

3.362" COAL base to tip on
Berger 175gr Elite Hunters

3.344" COAL base to tip on
Hornady 175gr ELD-Xs
