Had a really FUN time in Gainesville Ga yesterday at Cherokee Gun Range shooting steel silhouette ''varmints'' with 22 rimfires. CHEROKEE has a very popular club match called EXTREME RIMFIRE. We shoot steel silhouette @ 87yds/chicken. 129yds/pig. 165yds/turkey. 208yds/ram. l was shooting in SQUIRREL class with a CZ ROYAL 457 and 3-10 Leupold scope. Ammo choice was 30gr Aqilla @1700fps. A perfect score is the standard of 40. The targets were a mixture of IHMSA field pistol targets of various sizes. We were honored by a visit from the Bergara Factory rep. He brought 3 factory samples along with a goodly supply of match 22rf ammo. l saw Tenex, SK and Eley.
l shoot mostly CF 222/223 varmint rifles. The transition to 22rf is a shock and a real eye opener. Shooting these steel silhouettes is the closest thing to an actual FLESHY varmint.
The greatest enemies to Long Range Shooting are WIND and GRAVITY. Shooting 22RF amplifies wind and gravity quite a bit. This old shooter learned/relearned much about BOTH yesterday.
