Got a buddy looking for some advice on the 7stw and 170HH. I don't have any experience with that cartridge or those bullets. Did some searching and wasn't sure the 80 page thread had anything buried in it. He has some loads did up with h1000 but I would think that powder wouldn't net him very good speeds with that particular cartridge. He also has plenty of retumbo and rl33 to play with. The rifle shoot dang good with retumbo and 175ablr but he's looking to try the 170HH. In advice to give?

H1000 will work just fine, I used it with the 172gr Absolute Hammers. However, I would not be optimistic about gaining more velocity over conventional projectiles. 3200-3250fps is probably going to be the best and max velocity range for this combination.

I think he'd be tickled with 3200 and a 170. It's honestly faster than I thought that powder would do.

I hope this helps.

Great thread. I am enjoying the responses. Thanks.

Word of caution on n570 and overbore 7mm rifles….i have seen a completely smoked a Bartlein barrel after 190 rounds shooting 85 grains of n570 out of a 7-300 nmi……shot great and was fast but h1000 is ALOT nicer on the throat and only a little slower. But if you don't care it did shoot well (for almost 200 rounds!)

Oh ya, this is a hunting rifle so I think once he's got it dialed it should be fine for a bit. He was looking to run 190atips but runs out of room in the mag box. He's usually a speed freak so small bullets in front of large cases is his jam. Only recently he's been playing with heavy per caliber stuff. I think the 170/175 size bullets are a pretty good compromise for this cartridge. I mean, I doubt many creatures could take a 170 going about 3000fps at the POI.
