Big bore 19th century meets the 21st century

This oughta be interesting fun for some critters at distance - a CVA Scout with Arken LH4-16x44 sitting in new Boyd wood and fed black powder paper patched .45-70 cartridges.

I'll know this Friday, as load development begins and powder charges and seating depths are tested. The good part is that since PPBs for black powder are bore riders, there's no cartridge OAL or ogive lengths involved. I also have some smokeless PPBs to test as well - very different set of cartridge build rules for those.

Looks like that is going to be a ton of fun!!!!

Lovely rifle, in a cartridge which is overlooked. The only rifle I sold that I wished I never let go was a Ruger #3 chambered in 45/70.
