I talked to him way before he started his YouTube channel. It was my first custom build, and I really didn't have a clue how to build a rifle back then. He was ultimately right about a couple of the things I wanted to do, being a bad idea. However, it wasn't a good conversation over the phone.
I'm very happy with the smith I use now, and he'll still tell me when I'm making a bad choice. However, he takes the time to explain why. Not just telling me he won't do it.
Like I said, I believe he does good work. I trust the guy who sent me his direction still to this day. I think I was too green for Randy's liking, but I still found a top notch GS in the long run.

Straight Jacket Armory is in Evanston. They are big in the PRS world, but I think they take care of most any need.
Ridge Rifles is very good. Matthew is very good and usually very busy. Toyon at Red, White and Blued is also very good. Both are in Casper. Peter at Omega Precision is in Gillette. I have used all three and have been pleased with all of them. And welcome to Casper.

When I Google ridge rifles nothing comes up besides RGS. Is that him?

I got in touch with Matthew and he has my guns. He seems like a great guy and I'm happy to have met him and have him working on my stuff.
Matthew is a great guy, and a very good gunsmith. Matthew is a machinist that became a gunsmith. If you shoot at the Stuckenhoff range, you will run into him and his Yorkie often.

Mac's Gunworks in Gillette is close enough to drive to and does excellent work. Has a range on premises that goes over 1300 yds.

For western Wyoming Brian at pucker factor would be my choice. Usually has parts on hand and the best pricing around.
Maybe, I dodged a bullet then. However, I'm still sure he has customers very satisfied with his work. What were the issues you had?
I've been unhappy with a gunsmith before. It was mainly the time it took to finish my rifle, I wasn't with the quality of his work. It taught me not to try and seek a "more affordable gs" and to make sure I had 100% of the build materials purchased and in hand before dropping the project off. I learned as well if you're going with an uncommon caliber, barrel makers take a long time to make your barrel.
