27 Nosler & 170 Berger Hunter

How does the Nosler compare to the 7mm-PRC & does anyone offer Ammo for it with the 170's?

The 27Nosler is a 277cal.
7PRC to a 284cal.
The nos will smoke the 7PRC..

You may have meant to compare the 28 Nosler (same caliber as 7PRC)? I have both. As KEC mentioned, the 28 Nos will have higher case capacities and velocities. Barrel life on the 28 Nos will be considerably less and it can be more finicky and temperamental to load for. Mine is sending 195 Bergers at 3050 and could go faster. My 7PRC is sending 180 Bergers about 2950.

If you want a screaming fast 7mm bullet, the 28 Nos is an option to consider. However, I think there are better overall cartridges for the caliber.

27 nosler will bury the 7 PRC, if you're willing to pay the barrel toll.

And as others have stated, you're comparing a 270 cal to 280 cal.

I think Mickp7 got it right, believe he meant the 28 Nosler.

To me barrels are like brass when they start going bad - change them.

Also now that other brass manufacturers are making the 26,27,28,30 Nosler brass they are really getting my attention.
They are very efficient. IMO.

And to call any Nosler cartridge "efficient" is a dubious claim, at best. They're rockets, not Hondas. You pay for them in abysmal barrel life and lower FPS/powder burned ratio, but man do they cook.

The 27 puts you in a very narrow field for bullets available. There just aren't very many, that alone has kept me from considering a 27. The 26 and the 28 and the 30 have so many more good bullets available and you can almost always find something in stock for them. If I were to get a 27 I would buy at least 500 of the 170 Berger bullets or 500 rounds of loaded ammo if you don't reload and have them on the shelf before I put a dime down on a rifle. 500-600 bullets will take the barrel to the end or near the end of it's life. The downside is you have to figure out how to make that ammo work or develop a load that works, you can't just open the cabinet and try a different combination. In the beginning I would not have considered a PRC anything because the Hornady brass is not great but now you can get good brass for them and I see the appeal. I said the same thing about the Nosler cartridges in the beginning, their brass is also not great but you can get good brass from other companies.

There are a couple places that custom load the 27 Nosler with the 170 Berger, velocity is 31-3200fps. My 270/300wm gets 3220 with the Berger 170. Hornady says 3000fps for a 175 ELD-X in a 7 PRC.
