I just picked up a new rifle chambered in 7mm PRC. It is a Seekins PH2. I am currently divided on which scope to get for this gun. It will primarily be used for target shooting out to about 1,200 yards on our farm, mainly around 600 yards. Plan to shoot it out to around 2,000 as well on occasion. Would also be possibly used to take hunting out west assuming it is going to shoot better than my Christensen Ridgeline 300 PRC. The price I was quoted for the NXS 5.5-22x50 is $1,600. The quoted price for the NX8 4-32x50 is $1,700. Both of these would be the SFP option. The optic on my 300 PRC is an Atacr 7-35x56 that I haven't had the chance to shoot yet. Appreciate any advice!

I too am in need of a new scope for my newly built 7prc as well. From my research (no direct knowledge) the nx8 might have less of a forgiving eye box, especially at higher magnification. But I like the fact the nx8 is a 4x on the low end. I do a lot of woods hunting where lower magnification is welcomed. I had an issue a few years back getting on a good buck that snuck up on me and was moving due to my vortex only going down to 6x. Plus the nx8 is almost 4oz lighter. Likely not an issue most times, but if you are in the backcountry, that could play into things. The entire eye piece doesn't rotate on the nx8 like the nxs does…again no direct knowledge but I know some really dislike that about the nxs.

Interested in seeing others opinions especially from people that have actual experience with both.

Not SFP but I went with the NX8 4-32. I like the slightly lower end and rarely use the the extreme upper limit so any eye box issues (which seem more prevalent on the 2.5-20 due to short OAL) are negated. Also have the ATACR in 5-25 in SFP but haven't been able to shoot it yet.

The turrets on the NX8 aren't as crisp as the NXS but if you don't dial much it's not a big deal. I haven't heard any complaints about tracking issues on the NX8.

I have both scopes in question and two of the NX8 2.5-20x. While the NXS is a great scope, I prefer the NX8. I don't think the NX8 is any harder to look through compared to the NXS.

If you have a chance to look through them both before buying, definitely do that.

I have 2 NX8 4-32x50 FFP. One on a 6.5prc and one on a 25 Creedmoor. I love the scope and will probably get a third for a 7SS I'm going to build shortly! Clear crisp glass and it tracks very well, I like the low end 4 as we hunt out west in AZ. But I don't think you can go wrong with a NF

Yes, can't go wrong with either scope. I have both. With the NX8 I had to go with high rings to clear the rear adjustment lever.

I've owned several NF, NXS's, NX8's, & ATACR's
I'd recommend you check out the New TRACT
TORIC UHD 4-25x50 Eagleman
Long Range Hunting Rifle Scope.
I'd give it a slight edge over NF, even over the ATACR !!

YMMV.

Following this thread. Same great issue as you guys, a new gun that needs an optic, but a 6.5 PRC! I have been a Leupold/Zeiss guy for a long time and just wanting a change up from that on a rifle to give NF a shot.
I recently had the opportunity to look through an NX8 at my LGS, along with a few other scopes at the same time. The NX8 was immediately crossed off my list due to the eyebox and tunneling. I'm not here to bash any brand or model, I am merely suggesting you look through one yourself and not just rely on the opinion of others. I have spent most of my hunting life behind Leupold scopes, and while I'm not sure which Leupold scopes you are accustomed to, I feel sure you will notice a difference. It might be something that doesn't bother you, but it was not acceptable for me. I do own a couple other, high end brands as well (including NF), so not brand hating, just sharing my experience.

I'd suggest going over to the Rockslide forum and reading their "Drop Test" reports. Their tests are rough on scopes, and only those that do not change zero get the nod. It's apparent all brands can fail, but some fail 50% of the time, some 5% of the time. If your $30k sheep hunt is on the line, it's nice to know the odds are in your favor!

I am always amazed how folks can pick up a scope at a LGS look through it without it being mounted on a rifle…and make a determination so quickly about eye box, tunneling and etc. I sure wish I could learn that technique.
I was sure someone would feel this way about my post, and I get what you are saying, but that's why I said this was MY experience. You can be right and I'll be wrong, if it makes you feel good. Just FYI, I kept going back to this particular rifle (because I really wanted to like this scope), but "I" could never get comfortable looking through it. It immediately reminded me of looking through a paper towel tube as a kid. I hope you have the best of luck with whichever products "YOU" choose, but we aren't all going to have the same experiences.

Good day, sir

BTW, they were all mounted on rifles. It was my gunsmith and not a box store-if I misrepresented that, I guess I was just wrong again.

I feel that everything about a scope is a personal preference thing. I always tell people how I determine which scope to buy is I find the ones that I am interested in and I take a good long look through each of them. I feel that you need to sit behind them and spend some time looking through them. I feel fortunate that I live in a state where people love to hunt and shoot. There are so many people shooting the high dollar scopes these days that if you are at the local range you will probably find someone that has what you are looking for or close and will let you take a look through their scope. I have done it several times and I have allowed lots of folks to not only look through my scopes but fire off a few rounds through my set-ups to see what they think. I love my NXS and my ATACR scopes. I have 6 of them so I think that should speak for itself and if the need arises for me to get a new rifle I will have more. I do not personally like the NX8 in the 2.5 x 20 model but my best hunting buddy has one on his 6.5 PRC and he absolutely loves it. Another buddy has the 4-32 Model on a 300 Win Mag and he loves. I personally think the 4-32 model is an easier scope for me to get comfortable behind than the 2.5 x 20. Different strokes for different folks. Honestly, I would never buy a high dollar scope without getting a little time behind one, it can be a big investment and if you don't like it you will always take a hit on reselling it. Both that you have mentioned are excellent scopes, I don't think you can go wrong with either.
