High speed police pursuits, be allowed?

So I go to work at midnight and leave home around 1130 and usually set the cruise control just under where I'll get pulled over . Usually a few miles over the limit. I've had a few encounters where the police are in a rush. I had a Tahoe pull along side of me when I was riding my motorcycle in one night . Did a look and then stepped on it I was still doing 75 and never saw him again. Another time the car behind me lit up Another car that went by at north of 100 and it turned out it was Another cop . It's not always the chases but can be the ones that just speed because they can.
I understand. Hard to see things like that when you are trying to do the right thing, and then someone does wrong "because he can". It really does bring discredit to all Officers when one abuses his privelege. These days, most all units have GPS, etc and dispatch is "pinged" when a unit leaves the jurisdiction, or exceeds the posted speed limit. Not to take up for either Officer in your situation, but you don't really know where he was going, or if he was trying to back up another Officer, etc.

Yep, they're out there, unfortunately, but I can PROMISE you that I've seen citizens HIGHLY exceeding the posted limit more than I have other LE's.

Very true…however, if the "speedster" in question was responding in official capacity he/she better have had their lights/sirens activated or they'd be in violation of more than just one state statute. 😐

True. Same here, Lights required if exceeding the speed limit or going through intersections with traffic lights, Siren used to clear traffic.

When I'm cruising along at about 5 over and trying to be aware of my surroundings, it's still pretty easy for a vehicle doing 25 to 30 over to sneak up on me unnoticed. That being said,I have only had 1 vehicle with lights and sirens get behind me undetected in the last 25 years. I still don't know where he came from or where he was going, but he wasn't wasting any time getting there.

The chases at times, are probably a necessary evil, and should be avoided if possible. I believe that if the penalty for running is stiff enough, it would reduce the runners.JMHO

Yes, Sir…..ESPECIALLY during a pursuit! I know you've seen the unfortunate videos (mainly in intersections) where the LE DID NOT proceed with "due regard" for public safety. 😐

Last year we had a police chase where a local small town cop blew threw a red light and killed a high school kid and severely injured her brother. He was joining a chase that started out of his area. He has been charged with negligent homicide.
Yep, that's despicably shameful….and precisely what STRICT pursuit policies (or NO pursuit policies) are trying to eliminate.

Yep they do get charged if responsible. My old neighbors were cops and her husband was responding to a call in a un marked unit and off duty and didn't call in on the call and hit another car and was responsible for all damages. Mostly because he was off duty and didn't call in on the call. If the station had known he might have not had to pay. It also got him reprimanded and moved to another unit.

No at the time it was a Honda V65 Magna. 2 wheels I road all year round. Even in the snow a few times. That was before the Abrams. And now I ride a Yamaha Vmax. lol
That brought back a memory, Honda came out with the shadow and magna series of bikes, 1982-3?, so fricking cool, I wanted one so bad! My wife gave me a choice, the bike or we buy a house, heart braking decision but I choose the house, in hindsight, it was the right decision, but dang, those bikes were a young man's dream

Of course. We would not want him fired.

Hot bikes you have and had!

My most powerful bikes I have ridden was a 1988 Honda 1000cc Hurricane, and a 1954 Vincent Black Shadow. I got rid of both because I ran them too fast and at some time I would have gotten killed.
