Montana x-bows illegal

in Montana x-bows are illegal to hunt with during the archery season for everyone . as a handi -cap person with a valid doctor permit for Montana i still am not allowed to use a x-bow during archery season. i did purchase a draw lock system for my compound bow but that is very difficult to carry in the mountains and the draw lock is legal in Montana but its a real joke for a handi -cap person to carry and use. Montana bowhunters association is against people with a disability ,i wonder if that is even legal in America to be against handi-cap people like that ? any attorneys out there ? it might be some easy money ?
 
Take it or leave it is all I gotta say. If you want to hunt in our state don't complain. Your general tag is good for archery and rifle so if you are not able to hunt with a bow as per our archery laws then wait until rifle season or hunt somewhere else. It's as easy as that.

And threatening us with a lawsuit??? Best of luck with your attorney. You knew the hunting laws when you applied for a tag. The only joke will be you when the Judge throws the case out of court. That is if you can even find an attorney dumb enough to try the case. Do us all a favor and just stay home. You will not be welcome in Montana.

Just terrrible.

T wolf in a few years crossbows will make it to MT eventually. I am sorry to hear about your disability and wish you the best unlike others.
 
I'm a little confused and a little offended even though I'm not a bowhunter. You're claiming the MBA is against people with handi-caps, and I might be mistaken but I don't think that the MBA makes the laws regarding the usage of cross bows, so please elaborate on why you feel the MBA is discriminatory. Also, making a legitimate point and bringing that point to change for the better is a great thing, summoning lawyers to cash in is lame. If you want crossbows to be legal in Montana than leave the lawyers out and petition the people who make the rules.

As a disabled veteran here in Montana, I sympathize with your situation, but I agree with @LeddSlinger and @Sockeye66.
 
Sorry if I'm a little harsh. But it's these types of people with a feeling of self-entitlement that ruin places like Montana. Same thing when Southern Californians move here then want everything to change to the way they had it in Southern California. If you don't like how our state does business, then leave.

Looks like the OP is from Minnesota. If Minnesota allows him to use a crossbow, then he should stay there. Hunting in Montana is a "PRIVILEGE" for non-residents. It is in no way shape or form their right. I attend the fish and game meetings as much as I can and give input. I don't care either way if handicapped people can use a crossbow or not, but nothing ticks me off more than when some non-resident wants to come into Montana and change how we do things.

Yeah I'm with you. he's just complaining he can't use Xbow on big game during archery season.

I've lived here my whole life and that's the way it's always been with Xbows. I've never heard any Montanans complain about it.
 
I agree. If allowed I personally think success rates will increase and end up hurting herd health. Which in the long run will end up changing how we hunt in the state that in my opinion already has a rather long season. There are states that allow crossbows to be used, those are the states that should be looked at when planning a hunt. MBA is the organization that helped develop the draw lock system and is not against those with disabilities. So to come out and accuse them of that, is showing you have not done much research. I also believe MBA will also help those wishing to use the draw lock with the whole process if need be.

As one of many many states that have allowed crossbows in archery season this has been proven wrong.

Pretty much the same for real archers using real bows Long bows. Not The kind with cams an 80 90% let offs. Fiber optic sights drop away arrow rests etc.

Same debate happened long time ago when recurve bow hunters didnt want compounds in THEIR SEASON.
 
Yeah the whole archery world can be a mess between traditional and modern compound bow archers. Then there's the guys who only hunt with archery that despise rifle hunters. We already have enough debate and issues on the matter as it sits right now so we don't need another issue with crossbows.

I personally hunt with whatever gives me the best advantage to harvest game and fill my tags. I archery hunt and rifle hunt. If the majority of "residents" in Montana were in agreement to allow crossbows during archery then I would probably use a crossbow myself. But as sportsmen we all have to respect each other's rules and laws that are set in place with each state and hunt accordingly. And there's no way to make everyone happy no matter how hard you try.

I think that the laws in Colorado where you have to wear solid orange as well as a solid orange hat during rifle seasons are overkill because I know it puts me at a disadvantage when trying to conceal myself in my surroundings. But if I want to rifle hunt in Colorado I'm not going to start complaining about it and try to change the way they do things in their state. I will just abide by their rules and regulations and try to have a great time doing what I love
