My experiences with McGowen were both bad and the horrible customer service from Dan was worse. The only way I'd use one of their barrels again would be as a blunt instrument or possibly a blank taken to a competent smith that knew how to use the tools in their shop.

I did give up on this rifle trying to duplicate factory loads and using solid copper in it. It shoots great with the unobtainable nosler ammo and looks great in the safe. I went back to my trusty tikkas and have been reloading without issue.

I'm bumping this thread out of the grave yard to see how your testing went. With the lack of primer availability, especially magnums, I'd like to jump back to regular large rifle but want to make the right choice since it's a brick or nothing these days. Are the CCI large rifle hot enough...

I stop when the purpose of the rifle is achieved. Another words I don't fine tune a 100 yard whitetail gun if it's ballpark moa. I don't fine tune a steel ringer past 1/2moa if it's only going to 1000. If I competed or had a bench rest gun I'd be fine tuning down to tenths of a grain and...

From what I've seen primers are the largest bump in price out of all the components. A simple lack of components and high demand drives the prices up but of the ammo, projectiles and powders I've seen, it's not that bad. Ive adjusted and only shoot within my means.

I have previously shot Winchester ballistic tip projectiles in my hunting/target rifle and not seen any negative effects that I could attribute to the coating. I have now rebarreled and am reconsidering using the coated projectiles and figured someone here would have more experience than I do...

i'm happy as a lark. i just found 8lbs of h4831sc online for a very reasonable price including shipping and hazmat. now i just need to find some primers. this is the first time i've looked for primers or powder in a few years.

that's down right depressing but also why i want to consolidate and try to make sure my loads match whats around for a fair price in the future.

I realize it's easy to bring everything back to the usual topics but all things considered....ammo, powder, primers and bullets are being produced. When the military contracts are satiated, what's going to be left over?

I would have liked it better if they did a video on smokeless powder (1.3C). You should see all the testing blasting caps go through before the can be shipped (1.4B).

Kind of a painful video to watch, given the current situation we're in.

I burn hundreds of pounds of slow burning powder each year, usually in 20lb batches. They get lined up so the fireball isn't as large. Clumping them together makes that rapid exothermic reaction not tolerable for those nearby. I wouldn't want any of it inside my house when it lights up.
