Recently overcame accuracy problem (rem 700)

Oh, man...I have thought about it. New stock, quality bedding job. It is definitely a future project for sure!

Recently overcame accuracy problem (rem 700)

I hear ya. This just happened to be the the worst gun out-the-box I have ever experienced. Started with darn near 4" groups at 100 yards. I still believe a product shouldn't "need work" to serve its intended purpose. Heck, my flimsy stock $300 Ruger American 308 always shot .75 MOA or...

Recently overcame accuracy problem (rem 700)

I have to admit, this is my 1st Remington 700. Overall, I expected more from this rifle. The factory trigger was horrible, and obviously the bore wasn't a quality lapping job by any means. I just picked up a new Browning x-bolt in 308. Let's see how it goes.

I definitely use a bore guide. Just need the one piece carbon fiber rod.

Recently overcame accuracy problem (rem 700)

I am by no means an expert, but far from a novice. I previously posted in the reloading section about having problems developing a load that my Remington 700 Long Range would like in 25-06. I posted my final update there, but today I made even more strides that I wanted to share. I went...

    25-06 Load Development Problem

Final Update: I got it dialed in! Which of the four factors was it...we'll never know...but I suspect it was the lead sled. I switched primers and tried IMR 4350, stepping it in 46, 47, 48, & 49 grains. 48 was the sweet spot. Sub-MOA. I also ditched the sled and used a front adjustable rest...

I'm going to try without the sled. It will be about 2 weeks from now. I'll wake up this thread again with the results.

    25-06 Load Development Problem

UPDATE: I'm pretty sure I got a lemon from Remington. I tried slower powders; Retumbo & H1000 on the 115 Partitions and 115 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip Hunting bullets. I tried seating touching the lands, .015 off & .03 off...nothing improved. I even tried a box of factory ammo...same thing. I...

The old 25-06 Remington and 270 Winchester shot flatter than 6.5 CM

Heck... got my first elk this season back in September. 15 yards.

The old 25-06 Remington and 270 Winchester shot flatter than 6.5 CM

Understood. That makes sense. With my 25-06, 600 would be my limit on medium game...although many have taken game from farther...I won't.

The old 25-06 Remington and 270 Winchester shot flatter than 6.5 CM

All of this arguement over small calibers for hunting...I'm surprised no one is outraged that some of us hunt big game with archaic tools (archery). It is fine with proper shot placement, right?

    25-06 Load Development Problem

Thanks for the friendly welcome and advice. I'm having fun with the 25-06 so far. I chose it just because I don't like following the crowd and I believe the saying that "It is a handloader's dream."

    25-06 Load Development Problem

Hello Everyone, This is my first post. I'm military stationed in Tacoma, WA. Been shooting and handloading for the last 17 years. I recently picked up a Rem 700 Long Range in 25-06. I have a sweet spot, sub-MOA with 75gr Vmax with 55 grains H4350, 3440fps I have equal results with 100gr...
