Shorter range? With enough time of putting lead down the range and good quality gun, that is a 300 (it can do even more) yards deer caliber. 44 mag will do great on deer at 200 and even 250 yards , 460 two levels up when compared to 460.
I used to use things mounted on shoulder strap or other parts of the pack. Now I only use chest mounted gun, binos or any other piece of equipment that I will need in case if emergency. If I take the pack off I don't have those things if emergency happens.
I used it on 44 mag encore. Even on such a large diameter bore that brake worked but it is bulky and it looked ugly. What I have noticed on mine was that it got rust all over no matter it was made out of stainless steel. Barrel is made out of stainless steel and didn't get any rust but brake did...
