    First kill over 400 yards

Looks good and dead to me. Congrats. Meat for freezer. I was holding on a deer this season with a sporter weight rifle at 250 yards, watching the cross hairs dance all over... thinking, I've got no business taking that shot. 400+ yards long range to me!

    Where to have rifle built?

If you like Remington actions I'd suggest buy a BDL in desired caliber and bolt it to an HS Precision stock ordered to your desired length of pull. My limited experience is the aluminum chassis on the HS does a great job for the price. This strategy should get you under budget.

Possible to have too many binoculars?

My vote would be to keep. Keep for a spare or loan out. A good pair of Swaro's is never bad to have in my opinion. I bought the Swarovski SL and keep my Vortex on the kitchen counter for birds and such.

Vortex Razor HD 20-60x85 vs Meopta MeoPro 20-60x80

I'd like a spotting scope in the $1,500-ish price point primarily for range use and these two are top contenders. Anybody spend much time between both of these optics? I spoke with my trusted source at SportOptics and although helpful, they really didn't have much to say regarding optical...

    Left Hand Rifle Options

Budget and preference drives that decision... If money is not an object, have what you want built on a custom action. For low budget, you can get a Remington varmint in 308 and drop it into a HS Precision stock that can be found 'in stock' in several places. Or pick your more expensive...

    Ruger 77/17 problems

I had same problem. Even tried some Warne rings, didn't help. Although I can't prove it, it appears to me the action cut for the barrel is not true to the center line of the action. Th gun was an inherited 2003 model, so I opted not to send back to Ruger. My fix was a folded portion of...

    Anyone reloading for X-bolt 308??

Similar gun... A-bolt micro, 308 win 20" barrel. I didn't do much load development but the first outing it liked 43.5 grains IMR 4064 under a 165 Nosler Accubond. Took a nice whitetail this past season. No clue on velocity. As always, work up with caution. Good thing is the 308 has a...

    Swaro Z5 3-18-44 vs Zeiss HD 3-15x42

I bought the Swaro... never had one and always wanted to give them a shot. Have Zeiss, Nightforce, Leupold, Vortex, etc.

    Swaro Z5 3-18-44 vs Zeiss HD 3-15x42

Appreciate the feedback. I too had the Zeiss 4.5-14 but in a 50mm objective on that rifle. It had to be mounted high and was heavy. Glad to hear you felt the Swaro was an upgrade over that 4.5-14 optic.

    Swaro Z5 3-18-44 vs Zeiss HD 3-15x42

First off, I'm not a 'long range hunter' by any means (not yet anyway) but enjoy the discussion here. I do long range target shooting with big ole heavy rifles and heavy scopes - but my hunting is done primarily with traditional weight sporter rifles in the Southeastern US. That said... I'm...

Zeiss Conquest HD5 Or NF SHV

Zeiss glass is impressive and all I've ever owned are the older Conquests. To my eye they beat the NXS I have. I would assume the HD5's are phenomenal but haven't had the opportunity to handle one yet.
