public land softwear for GPS

can anyone give me a solid recommendation on which handheld GPS would be a good unit to have that will work with the land status chip?
 
There are many recommendations for GPS's throughout this thread. I would get a GPSmap 62s or 62sc


  • battery life
  • GPS reception in nasty terrain
  • easy buttons
 
I just upgraded earlier this year from my old Garmin Legend to the newer Legend HCx with the color screen and bought the Wyoming chip for it. It was only $153 delivered on Amazon.com and a friend just bought one there last week for even less. It's all you need, unless you want to spend hundreds of dollars for a lot of bells and whistles that many will probably never use. A lot of people are getting the Oregon model, but it's several times the price of what I decided on. The ones mentioned above are also very popular.
