Have action need cartridge

How would they compare in regards to suppressor. Thunderbeast said Ultra 7 could handle 20" 30 Nosler. I see their website says 22" for RUM.
Thanks
Dustin

My 338 Mega has a 21.5" barrel and my Rugged Alaskan handles it just fine. What is your big bore suppressor? The Ultra 7 would be fine with a 20" 300 Mega, 300 WSM, or a 300 PRC.

Within the confines of a 3.77 COAL, how well can the 338 edge / Rum perform? Is it limited to the 265 grain bullet range due to length of the big 300 grainers?

In order to play this game I would first need to look at what weight bullet I wanted to play with and then what type of performance I was looking to get with the length barrel i want to use. Then I would chamber accordingly. I feel like without any sort-of performance perameters the possibilities are so vast. But a new build of any caliber is exciting 😊😊😊😊

This is one of the reasons I went with the .338 NM/I over .338 LM/I.

The .338 LM and Edge need near or at 4.00" COAL to fully take advantage of the 300 Berger offering.

My .338 Thor (NM/I) with .300 Berger 3.7" COAL (touching the lands).

If it were my action and my money to burn, I'd go 7 PRC sized case, blown out to 338.
I would likely take 300 PRC, blow it out to 338 and then push the shoulder back for a more compact cartridge, targeting for 70-80gr of powder case capacity.
Load 300 grain long. Have someone use quickload or GRT to see about powders like H4350 / H4831 / RL17 - RL19 to get the best velocity and burn out of a 20"
You might even look at moving up to a 9.3 or even a .375, and could possibly use even faster powders.

If you think along the lines of a 416 Rigby -- 350gr bullet / 90-100 grains of powder and 20" barrel.
Whatever you build, with a large bullet and short barrel, the recoil will be stout.

Put it in a 22" bbl. and it'll probably perform about like a 338win in a 26" bbl., which is to say not too dang bad. I'd think long and hard about a 338rum on a 22" bbl. if I were the op..
