I'm officially a member of the brotherhood!! My new 7STW Remington 700 arrived last week. I put a new H-S Precison pros series 2000 stock in olive w/black web on it. Along with a Sightron Slll 6-24x scope and I already love this gun. Since brass is so expensive and difficult to come by, I purchased a few boxes of Nosler trophy grade ammo in 140gr Partition and 160gr Accubond so I could sight it in. My rifle likes both of them, but the 140gr is scary accurate (punched out the bullseye so perfectly at 200 yards I originally thought I missed the target).
I'd love some input on good loads and COAL.
I currently have Barnes 140gr TSX and 150gr TTSX, and Hornady 154gr SST bullets. I have Nosler Partition and Accubonds in 140gr and 160gr on the way, as well as some E-Tips in 160gr.
Powders I have on hand are IMR 4350, 7828 & 7828SSC, RL 17 &22, Hybrid 100V. I can't find any RL25 or H1000 in stock anywhere.

I contacted Barnes and got some load data from them and managed to work up one good load with the 150gr TTSX. 74.0gr IMR 4350 at 3.68" (0.05 off the measured lands) that grouped 0.763" at 100 yards at 3272fps.

Any and all loads would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your input.

If you have a 1:9 twist, then I would recommend 7828 SSC with Berger 180 Hybrids. I'd start around 71gr and slowly work up to find your best load. I'd seat the bullets about .015" off the lands, if you don't mind running the rifle as a single-shot.

with a 140 nosler ab I'm using 82 rl25 with a 215 in rem brass at 3.650" oal.. I can't go much over 150gr. or so for bullets in my stw, because it has a 10" twist barrel on it. That little issue will be fixed one of these days.

with a 140 and rl22, I'd start about 74 grains and work up to around 78.

160 gr Nosler Accubond on top of 77.5 gr of RL 25, Rem cases, 3.650 in my Rem 700 gets lss than .5" @ 100 yds. barrel is a 26" stainless 1/10 airguaged Douglas. Jewell trigger, McMillan stock, now with a 6X24 Swaro PH scope. Haven't clocked it yet....anxiously awaiting my Magneto Speed due to arrive this Saturday:) Then when it gets a little warmer....

You'll love the Magneto Speed. I bought one a couple of months ago. It's cool as hell and everyone at the range asks me about it.

duey,

I hope so. Have/had a Shootin Chrony for over 30 years until I shot one of the metal support rods in half!!. Have read with interest, the revews on this site by those who have had one snce the VX1. Also relatively new to the long range game and trying to learn as much as I can. Been huntng and shootng for well over 60 years and thought my "long" shot on a whitetail doe at over 425 yds was something.......until I joined the brotherhood and began reading. WOW!! Anyhow, it has been a great learning process from very helpful people.

Another load I developed for the STW, actually the first one, when I got the rifle in '92 is 140 gr Nosler BT over 85 gr of H1000. Gave me 3/4" @ 100 yds at a measured 3425fps. Using the Chrony......now I can compare.....That was developed at about 50 degrees F which was good, because it was a cold weather app. Since then I have reduced to 83 gr after getting some "shiners" on the case head during a 90 degree summer day!!! In reality, I killed probably a dozen deer with that 85 gr load, from 30 yds to 300 and it performed flawlessly. But, it is only for the "cold" weather....

Forgot to add, I bought the three current volumes by Bryan Litz from the LRH store. Really delves into the science of LR shooting. Fantastic reads...brush up on your math, statistics and physics though!!!
