I've shot 25cals for years. And want to build a couple rifles. For me and my brother to shoot the new heavy caliber bullets out of. Been looking at a 25-06 or the ackley version or a 25-284. Just wanting to hear some feedback and results others have had with these calibers. Also what barrels everyone is running looking at shilen or preferred barrel blanks. Open to any suggestions though.

Like my 25-06ai with a 1-8 twist. Started with hammer 103 hh. Had plans to shoot 133 Bergers but the hammers shot so good I have not tried anything else!!! Used retumbo for powder.
Any pictures of the rifle? And what brand of barrel are you running?

I have a .257 WBY with a 22" 1:7" twist current built to propel the 131 BJ, 134 ELD-M, and 133/135 Bergers. However, I jumped into the 145 Black Hole bullet and launched it at 3090 FPS and the 163 Chinchaga at 2915 FPS with more room to spare. And soon, I will be exploring the 180 Chinchaga upon delivery.

That thing seems sweet. I just sold my 257 weatherby and all the reloading components. If I do another magnum it'll probably be a short mag of some sort.

I built my 257 weatherby with a 1:7 twist. I am currently shooting 128gr Hammer Hunters and 135gr Bergers. Both shoot very well, .5MOA or so.

My barrel is a 26" carbon wrap from Oregon Mountain Rifles.

Under a hot charge of H1000 the 128gr Hammers are slung at 3340fps.

The Bergers are not fully developed yet, but are at 3150fps right now.

Sounds perfect for deer

I have a few 25s, with two more in the works.
26" 1:7" Bartlein M24 CF 25CM, 133 Elite @ 2975fps
26" 1:7.5" Brux Sendero steel 25CM, 135 LRHT @ 2986fps
26" 1:7.5" Proof Sendero CF 25SST, 133 Elite @ 3240fps

My two new builds are underway.

22" 1:7.75" Bartlein #13 CF 25PRC/SI, 133 Elite will be bullet of choice. Expecting 3150-3200+

22" 1:7.5" Benchmark Sendero Light CF 25xxx (secret for now), 135 LRHT probably. Hoping for 2950-3000fps.

I'm a big fan of the fast twist 25s. I have a 25 creed, 25 SST, 25-06 and a 25 PRC. 25 creed is the easy button, if you're okay with a longer barrel, I'd go that route. If you want to keep your speed up with a shorter barrel, the 25 PRC is a great option.

I started building when the blackjack 131 Ace was the only option for a high BC 257 bullet. Now that the 133 and 135 Berger and 134 ELDM are available, it's a great time for fast twist 25s.

As far as twist, 8 is generally sufficient. Two of my builds are 7 twist and had I to do it over would go 7.5 max.

Good luck with your builds. I think it's really a sweet spot for bullet weight, speed and BC
