AMMO NOT IN STOCK

academy does not ship ammo. The Academy website will not let us put ammo in the cart. They show some Winchester .270 150gr ammo in stock and 30-06 Federal ammo. Prices are starting around $25 per 20 rds. and averaging about $30. I believe they have this available because they are not shipping, and they are limited purchases to 4 units in the store

I have a box of 270 plus 16 loose rounds, a box of 280, a box or 2 of 30/06 I could let loose of for 25.00 a box plus shipping to help someone! Not a re-saler please

That's a good practice along with what Dosh said. I have been reloading forever, but never gave out reloads. I have given out plenty of FACTORY ammo (especially the past two years) that I have stored away from great deals or trades. i only have a few cartridges that I don't reload. .44 mag is one of them. About 25 years a friend of mine gave me a plastic box of .44 mag cartridges, which I thought were factory ammo that he bought. I had plenty of factory loads, but was just using free ammo for target practice. I went to the range to shoot and fired about a dozen with no issues. Then I squeezed the trigger on my S&W Model 29 and all I remember was a very bright light, deafening sound and my pistol almost jumping out of my hand. I was stunned for a moment and thought the pistol blew up. I regained my senses and checked the pistol out. There was no damage that I could see, but stopped shooting and went home. I thoroughly cleaned and inspected the pistol for damage or cracks. It was not damaged. I called my friend and asked him where he got the ammo he gave me. I thought he gave me Factory ammo, just without the original box. He told me that he got the ammo from a guy in the parking lot at a Gun Show. It must have been RELOADS and a super HOT incorrect load. I threw the remaining cartridges away. Since then I will NEVER take cartridges from someone unless it is in a Factory box with matched head stamps. I also try not to get brass unless it is new or have confirmed # of firings and inspect the brass before using. I have given once fired brass away, but cleaned and inspected before giving away.
A good practice is NEVER take reloaded ammo from someone, you can't know the quality of the reload. NEVER give someone your reloaded ammo. If something happens you don't want to be blamed for your reloads.
Helping other friends, shooters, hunters out with ammo in these times is a great idea, but stick to Factory Ammo or give new components. I won't sell, give away or buy Powder unless it is Factory/sealed containers.
Better to be Safe than SORRY! Learned my lesson.
This is an excellent point. I had a friend several months ago give me a box of reloaded 338 Win Mag. I took it, never intending to fire it, but I figured I would take them apart and salvage the components.
I pulled and weighed the bullets which were 250 grain soft points and out of curiosity weighed the powder charge.
I am reasonably confident I identified the powder as IMR 4350 which corresponded with the label on the box. What unnerved me was it was 11-12 grains lower than any charge in all the load data I looked at which included 6 recent manuals and several manuals reaching back as far as 35 years. Knowing that a severely undercharged round can be as dangerous as an overcharge, I'm glad someone else didn't get a hold of these rounds and just assume they were ok and shot them.
Also, it wasn't only one or two, every single round were the same.

I was at a Scheels this morning. Lots of ammo in stock ok their shelves. Pricing seems reasonable too.

They must have changed their policy,I have bought ammo before from them and they shipped it.

And then there is California....You may not sell or give ammunition (factory or reloads) to anyone. "That's the law" LOL love our pro gun laws...LOL

Academy is letting me put ammo in my cart.Maybe the ammo your trying to buy is now out of stock.I'm not seeing those in stock. They have Remington 150gr Core-Lokt Tipped 30-06.There is less ammo shown in stock now than it was this morning. You just have to check back often to see if it's available.

I stopped purchasing ammo and even other components in Mex-alfornia a great many years now. Now being an out-of-stater I couldn't purchased ammo, if I wanted too. I moved most of my assets out of there too. Down to a home to finish and sell. If you have bank address in that state you can't order out ammo even if it's going to another state. That happen to me a few years ago. Lucky I have a few addresses in Montana. So have everything shipped here, no sale tax either, and not problem in getting anything here. That the best part of it. There is a lot of great people in Mex-alfornia, but to many left voting people there, and to stupid to know better. Montana is now an open carrier or conceal state too.
If I reload for a friend. It done by working up loads for that rifle with me being there. I shot there rifle and they shot it too. We determine what works, and then load that for that rifle only. I have seen several great rifle out of the box that punch 5 shots groups at a 1/2" @ 100yds.
Scheel prices on reloading components here in Missoula were high. (Just open up) There factory ammo I didn't pay much attention to there pricing. Sportsmen Wh. prices in California that just open up. There prices for primer were less than $50.00 per Th. Missoula Scheel was $148 per Th. Both are out now.

I am not sure how long it takes for companies to react to the supply shortage, but this is driving me nuts. If all you shoot is 22LR or 223, you are golden. Even 308 is reasonably available. I spend way too much of my time just looking for components and ammo.
Needed to get this off my chest. I really don't feel better though.

I just came back from my neighborhood Academy. Lots of 5.56, 308, 7.62x39, 7.62x54, 9mm, .380, 350Legend, 22LR, 22Mag, 17HMR, but prices are more than I am willing to pay
I saw the same thing when I went to Academy.I found it strange that crap ammo was available but hunting ammo was not.I haven't bought a box of factory ammo other than 22 and pistol ammo in years. It sure makes me glad I load my own ammo for my rifles.

I haven't fired a round of factory ammo in 40 years. I'm afraid that I wouldn't have a round to give anyone. Unless they're hunting with a 22RF. :>)
I don't even own any factory loaded ammo anymore, and as others said, would not give someone ammo for their rifle that I've loaded for mine, even though I'm very conservative on my reloads. I choose consistency over speed.
