I have a 6.5x284 26" barrel that I have been shooting the 140 berger vlds. But I'm looking to change to the 143 eldx or 147 eldM. What do you guess recommend for a hunting from 50-800yards.
The 143 eld-x bullet has worked exceptionally well for us in a 6.5 creed on everything from pigs to cow elk to 375 yards. They have worked so well if not wanting to try the new 155 coming from Berger, I'd probably switch to the eld-x from the Berger 140 vld's in my 6.5x284.
Have never tried RL-26 in my 6.5x284. 4831sc has been my choice.
i have had good results out to 550 with the 140 vlds on bear and elk, but one did pencil thru at 440 yards on a bear and kinda worries me on close shots doing the same .I was going to try the 147 in my 6.5 gap but it only has .81 f.b so I stuck with the 140 vld. Just something to consider. Now that hunting season is over I'm going to work up a load using the 143 eldx after having the vld pencil through a deer at 200 yards and another at 690 yards.
I have been using 55.5gr of retumbo 140 vld 2950fps in my 6.5x284 . i think im going to try the 143's i was thinking about trying the the RL 26 i heard good things about get more speed but have to look into that more. with the 143 eldx do you get a exit on most kills?
Thank you . Has anyone used rl 26 . In this 6.5x284 with either bullet?
Thanks that sounds great. And what was your load for the 143 eldxI have used RL 26 with the 140 Berger's shot up to 55 grains with a velocity of 3105 no pressure signs in lapua brass. I took the low node around 53 grains for 3020 fps average. this was all tested at around 0° F.
I took one small mule deer buck with the 143 edl-x shot was inside of 60 yards, I got a full pass thru on him.
