About 5 years ago, i bought my adult son a Ruger American Rifle in 308. We hunted whitetail
in Texas for several years. That rifle loves the Hornady Whitetail 150gr factory ammo. Sub MOA
at 100 yards and deadly on whitetail. Hardly worth reloading if your goals are what you posted originally. The Soft point bullet in that ammo works well at 308 muzzle velocities.
