I have 3 300 Win mags. I shoot 200 grain Barnes LRX in 2 of them and they shoot well, but I have several boxes of 175 grain lrx bullets sitting around. Was thinking of using those for the 3rd 300 win mag. I use h1000 for the 2 that shoot the 200 grain bullets. Somewhere in the back of my head I seem to remember reading that h4831 is better for lighter bullets.

What powder would you start load development with on the 175 gr Barnes LRX? I am only interested in powders that are known to be stable from a temperature point of view.

I've read about people having great results with RL26. Max load Alliant shows is 79.2gr with a 180 TSX for 3,099 fps.

Funny thing, I found RE25 to be less heat sensitive that RE22, and it doesn't swing much in lot to lot variation.
I find H1000 lots to swing quite a bit, as does H4350 and Retumbo.

H1000 is a fine powder, but it is a tad slow.

Cheers.

74.5gr IMR 7828ssc with Hammer 181gr, Norma brass, Fed 215 primers, Lilja 26" three groove 3140 fps with low es and sub moa. 79.0gr h-1000 is 100 fps~ slower for me in the same rifle but similar accuracy. Temp curve for IMR 7828ssc is similar to H-1000 I have determined for me also.

I gave the above advise about H1000 because you were already using it but I'm using RL26 (75.0gn) with 215gn Berger Hybrid. My barrel (28" Pac-Nor, 1-9t, 5g) and this load averages 3045fps with no discernible pressure signs.
Zeroed at 300yds, I'm using less than 20MOA (on average) to get to 1K. I may stick with the Hybrid's but I tried 212gn ELD-X with the same load and the ES/SD were way better, as in single digits (and way cheaper).

RL26 is a bit temp sensitive. It will produce better velocity than the H1000....but the bolt will be a little sticky in the warmer months. In the .300 Win Mag the IMR 4350 will push the 180s around 3100 FPS.

175 LRX
77gr H1000 Federal Nickel cases(about all that would fit, crunching powder)
CCI mag primer
2907 FPS
With Norma cases I got 78gr H1000

75.5gr RE22 with the above gets me 3150 or so.

In my neck of the woods, the RE22 should be fine as 300 yards would be a loooong shot.

I just found 79 grains of H1000 to be the best for me. I'm shooting an X-Bolt 300 Win Mag with a 26" barrel. The bullets I like are the ACCUBOND LR 210's and I shot a 1/4" group at 100yds with .035" off the lands. I thought I was going to shoot my barrel off till I found this sweet spot. The pic below is a 3 rd shot group.
