Blind poll. Who thinks they could go 100 for 100 on a milk jug sized target out to 600 yards? With a hunting rifle, whatever you actually hunt with. Conditions looked good in the video, so maybe count a small wind. Even if it is prone for all shots (I try to take most of my hunting shots prone if possible, sitting with a good front and rear rest if needed).

See here for the thread and video I am referring to.

Watching the video, some of those positions/shots would be no-go in a true hunting scenario. With fair targets and clear lines of sight, IMO, 50% hits on targets AT 600 yds would be a pretty good feat. No idea what the actual mix of distances the targets were set at. IMO for hunting rifles should be setup at 200 yds zero. No need to range a target at 120 yds.

Out to 600 you could get away with high velocity medium weight "good" BC bullets, I suppose.
Wouldn't need the heaviest for caliber necessarily, right?

Unless you were using a 6.5-300wby type units. Then you can do fast, heavy and high BC.

I don't have a 600 but I do have 500 and 700. I shoot a round or two a few times a week mostly prone/ bipod off my deck. Probably some stretches in there over the years I've gone 100 for 100 over the course of 2-3 months of shooting. Also some days I've shot 5-6 rounds or more out of frustration and still can't get a hit to save my life.
