I actually have a benchmark barrel that was nitrided by the the guys at benchmark. It’s interesting that they don’t condone nitriding their barrels anymore.
I’m really happy with the Apex bullets right now. They check a lot of boxes and seem to combine the best elements of a few popular monometals out there. I have them loaded in a few different 7mm and.30 cals, and I’m finishing up testing them in some 6.5mm, .277, and .338s with great results.
I...
I got some more shooting done with the .277, 7mm, and .338 Aftreburners the other day. The goal on this trip out was to recover some bullet shanks after high-velocity impacts and shoot the bullets at longer range.
I shot all three bullets into 10% ballistic gel at 25 yards, with a stack of...
Apex outdoors makes a 161gr bullet specifically for the 300 BLK. I’ve had full expansion and petal separation at 900 fps. I just haven’t tested below that.

Is this the same Savage that had the little spacer under the bolt handle?
I bet this rifle was slapped together in its current configuration right before it was sold. It probably had a different stock and barrel on it previously.
The Target triggers are very usable down to around 9-10oz. They can't match a good target trigger like a Jewell, but they're pretty nice for a factory option. If you get it tuned right, you can remove the safety trigger with no issues.
I believe SSK was the only place licensed to build all of the B&M cartridges. You could also reach out to Michael McCourry at B&M.
I loaded ammunition for a 50 B&M Alaskan built on an original Model 71 for a friend. It was a beautiful gun and a very cool cartridge. It’s ballistically equal to...
My guess is that he has the trigger weight adjusted as low as possible.
You can set a target accurigger light enough that it trips if you close the bolt too hard. Adding a buffer like that will prevent the “bump” when closing the bolt from tripping the trigger. I’ve seen this when those...
I don't think the 338s are that bad. My 338/375 Ruger Striker weighs 7.5# and uses an old style 3 port Muscle brake, which isn't the most effective one out there by any means. I'd call that gun very manageable with a 250gr bullet, similar to a 44 mag.
I haven't hit anything with Badlands bullet, but I have shot a few animals with the Hammers. There's a great thread on here with a ton of data on the Badlands bullets. I've only shot 2 deer with the Hammer's, but I've been happy with the performance on both of them. The rest of my on game...
I've had the best accucacy with 8208, Benchmark, and H335 in an 18" 6.5 Grendel. BL-C2 gave good velocities but never shot as well for me. Ramshot TAC works well with lighter bullets.
I had an 18" 300 RUM Striker and it shot the 180 Accubond at 3100 fps. I'd expect the same load in a 16" barrel to be around 3000+ fps.
If choosing between a 300 RUM and a 338 Win Mag, I'd go 300 RUM. If one of the bigger 338s was an option, I'd pick that over the 300. A high BC .338 bullet in...
It depends on where you want them seated. This is a 250gr SB II at 3.810” on the left, and a 260gr HH at 3.780” on the right, both loaded in ADG 338 RUM cases. Ignore the seating stem ring on both bullets, that’s just my die. I just never get around to polishing that stem. Lol
