    28 Nosler or something bigger?

I would give the nod to the 28 Nosler. Personally, I went with 7MM STW because I reload and brass is less than half the price. If I was shooting factory ammo I would go with the 28 Nosler.

Trying to decide Savage vs Browning

Of the different rifles I own, the Savage which has barrel nut, is my favorite. If you decide to change barrels for whatever reason, even just to change calibers, it is easy.

Scope got knocked; Has it spoiled your hunt?

... Probably could be used as a hammer. One one of things that swayed me to go with Nightforce years ago was a YouTube video name Nightforce Scope Torture Test, it's still there. My first Nightforce was a SHV. On a mountain hunt my rifle fell over and landed on on rock, smacked the bell end...

    First Custom bolt gun

Building your own barrel vice could present a challenge. The clamping force required to keep a grip on factory barrel while breaking the action free, is significant. I have is a viper vise from Brownell's and discovered quickly that it did not have enough force to grip a Weatherby barrel... The...

Anyone know where to get .300WM Nosler Brass

If anyone is still looking - I see Hornady .300 Win Mag brass at Brownell's, Midsouth Shooters Supply, and Powder Valley...

    7mm decision build or nah.

I was contemplating my next rifle for over two years. I currently have a Savage and a Weatherby Vanguard both in .270 Winchester. I hand load and with bullets up to 150gr my performance is real close to 7RM. Both rifles are ½ MOA shooters. For my next rifle I need something that will shoot a...

Ballistic calculators off real life drop. why?

I have had the same issue with a couple of different rifles. Both .270 Winchester. The first one, I sighted in at 200 yards at a lower elevation. When I returned to a range closer to home, which is at a higher elevation, the first few shots confirmed dead on at 200. I thought that was odd...

    Need help

Colin78: The .308 as previously mentioned is tried and true with shorter barrels. The .284 would also be a good choice. Another option to consider is the .270 Winchester. I have an older Savage 111 with a 20” barrel, .270 Winchester. I have kept this rifle for 40 years in part...

    Reloading Equipment

Blackdirt Cowboy: Your list is looking good. Some suggestions; Starrett Calipers are a little pricey, RCBS has one that is about half the price and are very dependable, accurate. I am not familiar with the prep center you stated. You want to make sure it is capable of deburring flash holes. If...

    Your Ultimate 500 Yard Rig

My rifle of choice is a Weatherby Vanguard .270 win topped with a Nightforce SHV 5x20. Most rifles may be nicer to look at but not many shoot as well. Two pet loads - 140gr TSX & 145gr ELD-X, both in front of 61.6gr of H4831SC. The TSX shoots at a MV of 3200FPS & the ELD is about 50ft behind it...

    Your Ultimate 500 Yard Rig

@ jsheperd61 - What twist rate do you have on your STW? That will be my next caliber of choice. Looking to shoot in the 160gr range also.

    Raised cheek comb

Another alternative is Beartooth Products. They make different types of risers. They are basically a sleeve that you put the included neoprene pads in and pull it over the butt of the rifle. You can adjust the height by putting in or taking out different thickness of pads. They are economical...

Need help with non-lead solid copper bullets

I live in California, by marriage not by choice, although I did choose to get married. I will stay away from the politics of the condor, that’s a sore subject. I reload for two rifles in .270 win. One is a Weatherby with a 24” barrel and the other is a Savage with 20” barrel. Having experimented...

    Getting started reloading

I started researching reloading equipment about 5 years ago. I wasn’t convinced I would really benefit. Then I bought a new Weatherby rifle. Both hunting rifles I have are in .270 Win. The other rifle is a Savage 111. The reason I bought the Weatherby was to reach out a little farther, it has a...
