Looks great! I had a 270 RUM for a while and it was a lot of fun. I had mine before the 170 Berger was release, so there weren’t a lot of really good high BC options to pick from.
I found a happy compromise with a 140gr BT at about 3475 fps using US869. Accuracy hovered around .5 MOA, so it...
That’s where I got the idea for the name! I had a 7#, 458 Win Mag for a while that I only shot 500gr bullets out of. I’m still convinced that one gave me a few concussions. 😂
I had 450 Ackley pass through my hands a few years ago and it was a ton of fun. I don't think it did anything that a 458 Lott couldn't do, but it was so much cooler looking! I shot a handful of rabbits using reduced loads with Trail Boss and cast bullets just for fun, but the full power stuff...
I’m anxious to see how the 36 Nosler works for you. It’s one of the only bore diameters I’ve never played with. It won’t do anything that a 375 Ruger can’t do, it’ll just do it with more style!
Sorry, I should have been more specific. A short barreled (18-20”) 338 Win Mag would be in the same performance range as a standard length (24”) 338/06 with similar weight bullets. That’s just based on my experience with both chamberings. I found those two to only be about 150 fps apart from...
I'd be all over that! I had a chance at a Rossi 92 in 480 when they were first introduced, but I hesitated and missed out. I've been kicking myself ever since.
Are these from Chinchaga? It looks similar to the RBBT style bullets made by Rocky Mountain and a few other boutique shops a while back. It seems like a great option for the big 338s.
Do you have a performance range you'd like to be in? A short barreled 338 Win Mag is still a killing machine, but it puts you in 338/06 performance territory. I prefer to go up in case capacity anytime I shorten a barrel; maybe something like a 33 Nosler in an 18-20" barrel.
