  • LTLR, I have recently started reading the forum and found all of your posts to be extremely helpful. Especially all of your info on the 338 cutting edge bullets. I really look forward to getting mine in and working up a good load for my Mark V. I feel like I've read all 2,000 + of your post and can't find the thread where you posted your load data as a starting point. If you don't mind I would certainly appreciate a little help from one aero engineer to another!
I have been trying to contact you about the payment I sent you for the swarovski scope. Please contact me. You should have received it Several days ago. Please let me know. Thanks ED Reed.
I am new at this messaging stuff so bear with if you would. I have a sako L61R magnum action and would like to build a long range hunting rifle. I am thinking about something for bear and elk. Where I hunt here in Oregon I have had lots of shots at 700+ yards and have passed and waited for a 500 yard or tried to get a closer shot. Now I would like to move to beyond 700 yards. So with all that said with this sako action I was thinking of building a 338-416 remington. What are your thoughts on that ?
LTLR, was hoping to get your opinion on a rifle I was looking to buy. It's a South Gate Wby. in 257. It has a 24" 1:12 twist barrel. Any advice would be appreciated and thanks for posting your experience as I've learned a lot. I'm in Alaska now but I grew up in Rapid City and hunted Unit 35 in the early 90's. Loved the elk hunting but wasn't a big fan of Wy's guide in the wilderness law. Thanks, Fred
    Long Ranger,

I and a couple friends are hoping to come to Colorado for an elk hunt in the 2013 hunting season. I just saw your posts and wondering if it is available to come out to hunt unless things aren't looking good. Have you still been getting a lot of snow? We would be looking for pack horses and are familiar with riding, please let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Tyler
Hi LTLR, I see your knowledge is desired by other including myself! I was hoping to get your input on loads for my 340 wby freebore with 26" barrel including the accubrake.

In one of your post you mentioned being a freebore you can generally work a load up to 10% more than then max & you also mentioned using a slower burning powder, something I have never thought about. I like to reloaded & shoot but info like this makes it even more exciting for load development!

I see you are a fan of the 250 GK (great BC), I bought 200 rounds of .338 250 gr InterLock SP(.431 BC) during the big scare & now I'm wishing i wouldn't have. Do you have any input on those bullets or load data such as type of powder and grain?

Lastly, I'm not a fan of lead tips bullets since they seem to deform before i shoot them. Do you find this to be a problem with the GK & how do you get around it? What about a ballistic tip or something?

Thanks any advice is appreciated! Love reading your post!

    Mr. Long Time Long Ranger,
I would like to say thanks for all of your valuable inputs to these threads. After lurking on this site for some time, I constantly see your name next to some good, educated post and I value your knowledge and comments. I have been debating what caliber I want to shoot in my next long range, heavy game gun. I shoot a Savage 110 FP in .25-06 for deer and below. My next gun will be for everything larger than deer and I have it narrowed down to either a .300 WM or more than likely a .338 Ultra Mag. Once again, I enjoy reading your post and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    Happy shooting,

    Curtis
Mate get in contact with me if you are keen to trade a hunt in Australia or NZ.
I have access in Both Australia and NZ. What species are you chasing and when are you thinking of heading down this way. Would be more than happy to do a swap hunt with you.

    Cheers

you said in my post that you have a 6.5mm STW. Can you give me some info about it and possibly some pictures. What load your shooting? What bullet? What powder? that type of stuff. Thanks.
I see you said you live east of cody I am assuming that means burlington or greybull? I live in Basin
Hey, hate to keep bothering you sir, but I was wondering what your opinion of the 338 Federal was. I have a new area to hunt and its basically a forest longest shots 70 yards maybe. I am hunting out of a blind here and currently use an encore with a 20" bullberry 308 win barrel. This length is perfect for the blind nice and compact. My wife really likes this gun, so I was going to by another encore rifle action and buy a custom 22-23" 338 Federal barrel for it for myself. Any opinions?
I was fascinated with your reply recently to a thread I started about putting together a 7 mm of some kind. You mentioned a 7 mm JR, a 7mm Gibbs etc. Have you any experience with the 7 mm SAUM? Which of the 7 wildcats do you favor and why? If I can get an action reasonably I want to put one of the 7mms together? Your reasoning seems very sound to me. I am located in SC. Kirby Alen is just finishing a 260 for me. I only want 2 rifles (unless I decide to get a 22-250 later) so I want a 7 mm of some version as my second and heavier rifle for hunting out west a few times during the next few years. Thanks.
