  • Jim Matteson: We have the same spelling on last names. Do you have any family ties from Denmark? Last name changed from Mathiesen. . They have moved to Wisconsin. I had met a gal in Nevada at a forest station with the last same name. She or her family was from Wisconsin. I though that my family came for another state near by, but was wrong. You don't to reply if you don't want too.

Mike, my uncle, Richard Matteson, son of Maurice Matteson and Augustus Lofton, researched our family all the way back to the middle ages. I have to confess I don't have much knowledge or information of that but I seem to recall that the evil and cruel overseeer in "Uncle Tom's Cabin", Simon Lagree, was based on the Legaree family to which I am related.

I think the family is from Sweden, but my uncle's research seemed to cast a pretty wide net. I know this: my father's battalion got run over at the Battle of the Bulge and he was only 19 at the time. He was pretty hard core and I'm pretty sure that war left a mark.
