    Today's Eagle

Perched overlooking the Wenatchee River, Chelan County Washington this morning. Very patient eagle, posed for the camera nicely. Saw it while I was walking my bird dog this morning. Regards, Guy

What’s the farthest you have taken a big game animal with a rifle?

405 yards, cow elk with my 30-06 Rem 700 CDL, 6x Leupold, handloaded 178 gr Hornady ELD-X. Regards, Guy

    Today's Ram

Perhaps the biggest obstacle is obtaining the tag. This morning I got to within 100 yards of the ram, he was in a group of five. Washington State. What a wide set of horns! Regards, Guy

    Alaska Grizzly Bullet Choice

Brooks Range grizz, several shots all under 50 yards. 30-06 with 200 gr Nosler Partitions loaded to 2600 fps. I didn't do the greatest job of shooting. Missed with my hurried first shot. Next shot broke his fore-leg. Bear went down then almost as quickly was back up! Made a crummy shot - what...

    6 Creedmoor Powder Recommendations

I haven't tried it in my 6 Creed yet, but I was very pleased with the results of VV N555 and the 6.5 Creedmoor. Single digit SD's with the 140 gr Sierra Tipped GameKing and almost 2700 fps from a 22" barrel. VV N555 is supposed to be good with the 6 Creed too, but I haven't tried that combo...

Berger 30 cal 155 grain VLD for hunting?

Thanks all. I've taken three mulies with my 25-06 and the 115 Berger VLD with excellent results at 175, 225, and 400 yards. Took another with the 180 gr Elite Hunter from my 30-06 rifle a couple of years ago at 350 yards, excellent results again. I appreciate the info re your experiences with...

Berger 30 cal 155 grain VLD for hunting?

My Remington 700 has a 24" Krieger 1:12 barrel. It shoots the 155 gr Berger VLD bullet very well and I see that Berger classifies it as a hunting bullet now. I haven't had any trouble getting 2800+ fps with it and excellent accuracy. Do you think there'd be any issue using it on mule deer...

    Primers not flush

I'd try a different shell holder first. However... That Frankford Arsenal handheld priming tool is great, and it does let the user adjust the seating depth of the primer. I've used mine extensively for the past year. Pretty gave up using the others I've accumulated over time. Regards, Guy

Feed Back on .338 300gr OTMs on Elk

Congratulations! Excellent shooting and two elk down. Lots of good meat for the freezer. I appreciate the performance report on the big Bergers. Based on the limited hunting I've done with 30 and 25 cal Bergers, that's about what I'd expect. Lots of damage and instant or near-instant death. I...

    3 elk in 10 Min

Outstanding! Excellent shooting. That's a whole lot of good meat in the pickup and then into the freezer. :) Regards, Guy

Non-recovered Elk - my fault or bullet failure or both?

Am sorry that you lost your elk. That's no good. Am glad that you brought it up here for discussion. We can learn a lot from each other. I don't hunt elk often and have taken only three. The first two dropped almost instantly, within a few seconds, but I got an education on how tough they can...

TARGET BULLETS ARE NOT HUNTING BULLETS!

You could write a book on this subject. Thanks for dropping bits of knowledge on the forum. :) Regards, Guy

    Bergara Hunting Rifles

My son and I had to cut our mule deer hunt short, before taking a shot, but we were ready: I had the "Ridge Carbon Wilderness" in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 3-15 Leupold HD5 and handloaded 140 gr Sierra Tipped GameKing bullets. It's on the Ultradyne carbon tripod in the photo. My son had his...
