    Recoil

I don't know why but I don't feel the recoil in the field (although I sometimes know at the moment that I'm being pushed back) and I don't hear the shot (I'm now wearing very expensive hearing aids and this year started wearing sound attenuating ear muffs when I'm about to shoot game). I just...

Whats the cartridge you LOVE to HATE?

The British .303 rimmed cartridge fired out of the P.O.S. Enfield. The dumb-*** Brits will still argue to this day vehemently as to how the enfield was and is still the greatest bolt action battle-rifle of all times and how anything American (U.S.A. GI) is and was crap. (I'll admit to owning 3...

    338-06 A square vs 338-06 AI

A bit of a tangent here but last year I bought two old (one is a four digit and the other is a five digit) Rem 700's with shot-out barrels. Both were .270 Wins and I had both bored-out, re-rifled and chambered, one in 8mm-06 and the other in 35 Whelen (.358). Took about 8 months but was worth...

    Best position for groups

Lead sleds are typically not for everyone nor every rifle-range work up. However, when you shoot very large caliber rifles with heavy bullet weights you can't take very many shots without being negatively effected by the significant recoil thus limiting your shooting experience and or developing...

    Over the counter tag state?

I've given up hunting in the USA now except for buying points each year for an elk in Wyoming (got 4 now). In California there are almost no ducks left, few deer (by drawing), no bear or cat hunting (plenty of each however), & no lead on varmints. I now only go to Africa each year but over the...

    Long Action vs Short Action.

Remington 700 BDL .308 WIN. "short/medium" length magazine-well measured an approximate 2.88 " O.A.L. REMINGTON 700 BDL 8MM/06 (rebored and rechambered from .270 win) "long" mag-well measured approximately 3.71" O.A.L. Longest rounds I shoot out of Rem 700 chambers are the .375 H&H Mag. and...

    Hippie barn find ?

It's an alcohol fueled torch. Electricians would make solder splices in old "Knob and Tube" wiring (usually in the attic space) the days before Romex" and "Scotch-Lots" and then wrap the splices with black fabric (bicycle) tape. Junction boxes for splicing were not used at that time.

I need help/info getting through customs, TSA, Homeland Security, etc. getting out and then back into the U.S. with my rifles.

So after many treks through and across the web I searched for a local Customs office and called them. Once I got the agent talking he told me everything to do and whom to call ( Local TSA etc.), He really liked to chat. He said to get the form 4457 to start so I printed 6 copies off the web. He...

I need help/info getting through customs, TSA, Homeland Security, etc. getting out and then back into the U.S. with my rifles.

I've hunted Africa in the past but used the PH's rifles so I am completely at a loss in dealing with U.S. customs and the rest of the Govt. folks when leaving and re-entering the country. What do I need to do before I leave on trip regarding forms etc?

Building A Do All Factory Ammo Rifle

30-06..... You can shoot from 100 gr. to 220 gr. and buy ammo absolutely anywhere in the world. Second would be 7mm Rem Mag, shoots further but smaller bullets; also available just about everywhere. Neither really big enough to satisfy most African PA's. Or you could go much bigger and still...
